Paulo kicked off the conference with a thought provoking keynote arguing the idea that ‘IT doesn’t matter and is just a commodity' was incorrect and described how and why IT is in fact the source of competitive advantage for many leading companies. He also warned the audience that because every good idea is eventually copied -eroding any competitive advantage - continuous innovation is imperative.

DGAL's Project RJUE was built in two phases. Marcelo de Carvalho explained that the first phase automating the process from the perspective of the Town Halls, has been in production for some time. The presentation focused on how Glintt used the OutSystems to deliver a factoring solution to Finanfarma. According to Pedro, the project had an initial estimate of 3 years and 6 consultants, assuming traditional technologies. Using OutSystems Agile Platform, the project took 1 and a half years, with only 2 consultants!

Communication was made by email and Infopath, and at the end of the process the IT department would copy the gathered information into SAP and BASIS. He pointed out that development takes too long and is too hard with current tools. Although new tools will help the development time, these are useless without proper methodology. Adopting Usability in an Agile Environment

Gem started by highlighting the similarities between usability and Agile, including the fact that they are iterative and that they both mean extra value for the company. But, as Gem pointed out, there are also some fundamental differences, including the fact that usability is slower than Agility and most feedback is gathered from outside the team, as opposed to coming from the team.
