Agile Platform 7.0 - connect to database at runtime (New Feature)

There is a new feature in 7.0, it features a new API, which allows you to switch, on an External Database Connection, at runtime, the actual database that you'll connect to.

Can someone please explain this feature, how it works, how to use it, when is it needed etc...

We've just made available a new help topic that documents the functionaly exposed by the Agile Platform Public API.
There you can find the documentation for this new feature of connecting to a database at runtime using Database Connections.
