The role is primarily on-site, open to contract, contract to hire or full-time employee, in Chicagos downtown loop. 


The OutSystems Developer plays a critical role by leading the technical aspects of our OutSystems projects working directly with our prospects and clients. The OutSystems developer will be responsible for combining programming experience and visual expertise to provide guidance and ensure fit-for-purpose solutions that are scalable and maintainable.This role will master OutSystems Platform technology in conjunction with modern software engineering practices for developing web and mobile business applications. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Develop customized solutions for clients in the OutSystems platform, creating functional components of UX and UI requirements following Agile methodologies.
  • Tackle complex technical problems following OutSystems development best practices, ensuring solution performance and users adoption.
  • Working as a team helps design and develop custom features and application components using agreed team and company practices. Program and develop integrations with external systems to meet business workflow needs.
  • Act as a champion to the OutSystems Development team, mentor, train and coach other OutSystems developers.
  • Collaborate with Sales to build prototypes and proofs-of-concept for prospects and clients.
  • Analyzes and implements user stories based on objectives/acceptance criteria. Participates in test case development for expected functional and performance requirements
  • Participates in team and company growth. Updates development knowledge base, researches new design/development technologies and software products, participates in educational opportunities and other professional growth resources.
  • Delivers value to customers. Enhances Highland's reputation by accepting ownership for quality. Explores opportunities to add value to job accomplishments through innovative solutions development.
  • Holds themselves and their team members accountable for delivering high value and quality to clients, and provides high-transparency by identifying information needs and facilitating communication.

Experience Requirements:


  • 1-3 years experience with Microsoft Stack, C# or .NET required.
  • Web application development, process design and project delivery practices.
  • Understanding of solution architecture, design and web application performance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work on an Agile development team on multiple fast-track projects
  • Client-facing consulting experience


  • OutSystems development experience and certifications are a plus although training will be provided
  • 4+ years working with HTML/CSS/JS stack related frameworks
  • Advanced HTML and CSS authoring skills using non-visual tools and IDEs
  • Front-end Javascript platform experience: Backbone / Handlebars / Underscore
  • Knowledge of database modeling and programming with databases: SQL Server, Oracle or MySQL.
  • Web Publishing/CMS: integration with blog and networking platforms, commercial content management system template design; Wordpress
  • Experience with reactive and event-driven architecture
  • Experience with responsive UI architecture

Education Requirements 

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Programming, CS/IT or equivalent and experience
