This position formulates and defines system scope and objectives; devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results; prepares detailed specifications from which programs will be written; designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents those programs. The individual at this position is competent to work at the highest technical level of all phases of applications systems analysis and programming activities. And, be responsible for completion of a phase of a project, while regularly providing guidance and training to less-experienced engineers. 

Key responsibilities for this position include: 
• Accurately estimates the magnitude and time requirements to complete for projects. 
• Provides accurate and timely updates to project manager and/or team lead on progress. 
• Writes designs for new systems, or changes to existing systems. 
• Designs, writes and performs unit, integration or system testing which includes development of test plans. 
• Participates in peer review of work products such as code, designs, and test plans produced by other team members. 
• Assists other team members, serving as an 'expert' either in the business application, development technologies or Software Development Lifecycle processes (such as reviewing, designing and testing). 
• Works with the documentation team to assure new functionality is properly documented. 
• Serves as level 4 support, troubleshooting problems, providing workarounds and producing patches for customers as required. 

Job Requirements The successful candidate must be experienced in a variety of software development concepts and practices for complex development projects. 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / related field; or a minimum of 5 years of progressive software engineering, systems analysis, or other related experience 
• Must possess the knowledge of object-oriented programming and various web or desktop development technologies. 
• Must be proficient Microsoft C# .NET framework. J2EE and related technologies a plus. 
• Proficient in Microsoft Entity Framework 
• Strong experience in relational databases such as Oracle is also required, including data modeling, sql/plsql queries/functions/procedures/triggers/packages. 
• Solid understanding of service oriented architectures, microservices, application frameworks and system integration methods. 
• Cloud/Service Fabric/Azure preferred. 
• Good understanding RAD concepts/tools such as OutSystems. 
• Good communication/mentoring skills. 
• Must have superior project management and problem solving skills. 
• Experience with full lifecycle development projects and Agile methodologies preferred 
• Familiarity with emerging technologies and software development best practices. 
• Previous experience and knowledge of STARLIMS Laboratory Information Systems is a strong plus.
