OutSystems’ Award Program Recognizes Latest Agile Application Projects Delivered On Time, On Budget and With 100 Percent User Adoption

This quarter had an unprecedented number of award winning agile projects and highlights the success of OutSystems agile methods for building enterprise applications. Each winner represents a different industry showing how agile method and the OutSystems’ Agile Platform can be used by IT organizations to effectively support business innovation across all vertical markets.

OutSystems, provider of the industry-leading Agile Platform application development environment, announced today five new winning projects for the OutSystems Agility Award, recognizing accomplishments for projects that were delivered following an Agile process and exhibited real business benefit.

This quarter’s winning organizations represented companies across a diverse set of commercial markets including transportation, pharmaceutical, finance, manufacturing and legal services.
The five winning companies were PrimeDrinks, Banif, Sata, Hovione and Rui Pena, Arnaut & Associates.

The Agility Award program was launched at the end of May 2009. The awards are submission-based and recognize teams and organizations who have fully embraced Agile methodologies and iterative, user-oriented development to deliver application projects on time, on budget and with 100 percent user adoption.

Prime Drinks

PrimeDrinks - OnTrack project

The OnTrack project replaced a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system from SAP that was no longer the ideal solution for PrimeDrinks, due to its development and maintenance cost, as well as non-swift development lead-times. The new CRM system integrates a large number of files every week containing sales data from resellers and presents several reports that show different perspectives of those sales. The new CRM system also provides information to a reward system that gives points to the sales representatives according to their sales. Delivered by OutSystems partner INOV in 24 weeks with 11 sprints.

The project was implemented by OutSystems partner INOV and was both on time and on budget, using an Agile project approach. The new CRM system dramatically increased the reliability of the information, as well as both efficiency and flexibility at the business level. On the other hand, the savings were substantial in terms of SAP licenses, consulting fees, servers and storage, IT management, and external provider for the rewarding system.

Banif Investment Bank - Audit Follow-Up project

The Audit Follow-Up project provides collaboration mechanisms and management of control points for the Bank’s Auditing process. The new online system keeps track of the status of all ongoing Auditing processes and enables an effective collaboration across the various departments involved (40 people have already been trained within the bank). The system assists by broadcasting announcements related to issues, scheduling formal deadlines for various user profiles, and issuing "on the fly" progress reports which strengthens the system’s internal control. The system also supports the tracking of audit issues, allowing both the auditors and internal clients (involved in the auditing process) to collaborate in the resolution of more complex audits, greatly reducing the effort traditionally used in scheduling meetings for this specific purpose. Delivered by OutSystems partner Mind Source in 8 weeks with 4 sprints.

The implementation of the Audit Follow-up application occurred ‘on time’ and ‘on budget’ and enabled the bank to have better control and follow-up of all audit issues, raising the compliance level of the institution. In productivity terms we estimate the new application will provide us a savings of four months per year in a team of only two people.

SATA Airline - eRetail Engine Administration project

The eRetail Engine Administration project delivered an extended Back Office application to support SATA’s web sales and the multi mobile platform that is under development. This new back office supports all the business rules and needed web services for the booking process, promotional codes (definition, availability, control and data warehouse feed) and offline payment processing. Delivered in 12 weeks with 6 sprints.

The use of OutSystems’ Agile Platform on this project made development, communication and management mechanisms extremely simple, flexible and efficient. The agile approach supported great cross team communication and the project’s iterative cycles allowed a greater understanding of development progress and provided for constant feedback from the business. By putting the customer’s needs and goals in the center of the development process we achieved great value creation for the business.

Hovione Pharmaceuticals – Global Performance System project

The Global Performance System (GPS) is Hovione’s new performance appraisal system. The system is used across Hovione’s entire organization and implements policies and general rules for the business. In addition the system supports the quality service improvement process across Hovione’s team members. The GPS is a managerial system that integrates with other Human Resources policies, namely internal mobility, career management and retribution levels. Delivered by OutSystems Certified partner Noesis in 14 weeks with 4 sprints.

Applying Agile methods for the GPS project gave us a greater focus on quality and discipline. In addition it drove us to work closely with business stakeholders and to deliver working software on a regular basis. By providing frequent opportunities for customer feedback, the agile method let customers steer the project incrementally, taking advantage of new insights or changed circumstances to build a better system.

Rui Pena, Arnaut & Associates (RPA) – Corporate Operational Intranet & Extranet project

This project delivered a corporate Intranet / Extranet extensively integrated with SAP to allow users and clients access to information and services including: Self-Service management of Human Resources general data; Perform Performance / Skill Evaluation for Employees; Define Pricing; Manage Clients; Manage Processes; Manage Activities / Timesheets and Manage Internal Communication. Delivered by OutSystems Certified partner Reditus in 21 weeks with 6 sprints.

Using OutSystems’ agile approach this project delivered exactly what we expected. By using the Agile Platform we were able to change our requirements easily and fast, enabling our firm to achieve even higher quality standards in our service level. The Agile Platform allows a great alignment between the IT and the business.
