Upgrading Database Connections to OutSystems Platform 9

Upgrading Database Connections to OutSystems Platform 9

To provide support to new database providers such as DB2 and MySQL, OutSystems Platform 9 uses a different database connection format than earlier releases. When upgrading OutSystems Platform to release 9, the Configuration Tool automatically converts the database connections to the new format. However, some customized connections cannot be upgraded automatically, so first the Configuration Tool checks all of them, and gives you a list about the problematic ones, if any.

In order to upgrade to OutSystems Platform 9, you'll need to fix the database connections that cannot be upgraded automatically. This document describes the steps to do this. After the upgrade, OutSystems Platform 9 allows you to define custom database connections, to easily integrate with your existing systems.

Note that the steps below depend on the version of the Platform Server you are upgrading to: OutSystems Platform 9.0.0.2, or OutSystems Platform 9.0.0.6 and onwards.

Upgrading database connections to OutSystems Platform 9.0.0.2

  1. As part of the upgrade process described in the Installation Checklist, run the Configuration Tool of OutSystems Platform 9, and on the Database tab press the Create/Upgrade Database button;
  2. The Configuration Tool displays a warning about the database connections that could not be upgraded. Take a note about them;
  3. Close the Configuration Tool without saving the changes;
  4. Open Service Center (http://your_server_address/ServiceCenter), and navigate to Administration - Database Connections;
  5. Open each database connection requiring manual intervention, and take note of the customizations you have, so that you can apply them after the upgrade.
    Change the connections to use the standard Service Center format. This will immediately affect the running applications.

  6. Run the Configuration Tool, perform the upgrade steps, and install Service Center as described in the Installation Checklist;
  7. After the installation of the new version of Service Center, you can go back to the database connections to customize them. You need to republish the applications for this change to take effect;
