mobile site data update

mobile site data update

We have pieces of equipment on our page.  Lets say someone has the dashboard open on the mobile site and has that machine in their list.  Lets say someone else logs into the machine (from another phone/website).  Is there a way that the mobile site would see this change in the database and then update?  Could do a timer every 15 minutes but was hoping there is a better way.

Hi Jason,

What you want is a push mechanism from the database to one or more clients.

To implement such functionality in a website, you need to use WebSockets. For websockets you are always depending on a server that pushes the information to the clients. You can host one yourself using Node.js or SignalR for instance or you can use a cloud solution from for instance Pusher.com. For the last one, there is an extension on the Forge.

This sounds like exactly what we want.  Do you know of any examples out there?

Ok, looking at the pusher forge item.  Big question: will this work on mobile apps as well as pages? We want to use this for a mobile app, not webpage.
