OutSystems 10 & Silk UI

OutSystems 10 & Silk UI

Hi

I started learning OutSystems 10 for Web and Mobile (Android) application, then I happen to come across you have Silk UI at the same time, which is with built-in features and template, similar to OutSystems.

It really confused me.

Is tat SilkUI is a shortcut Platform for OutSystems or Shall I just ignore SilkUI and learn to build apps from scratch using purely OutSystems 10 for Web or Mobile?

Thanks and clarification.

Hi

Silk UI is already built-in when developing mobile apps, so, putting plainly, you should not ignore Silk UI :-)

Silk UI is a UI framework built for OutSystems Platform which greatly accelerates and simplifies the creation of web and mobile applications. It provides templates, sample screens and dozens of UI patterns to give you a hefty jump.

Did you get to see its website silkui.outsystems.com or catch some of the training?

Cheers

If you are a beginner in Outsystems, I would recommend, first to learn Web App tutorials then have some look at SILKUI and then learn Mobile App.

Hi

Thanks so much. I know that SilkUI is build on Outsustems 10 with sample.

My concern is:

- in order to have indepth understanding of Outsystems, would you recommend that I go thru all introductions instead of jumpstart to SilkUI?

- If I only go directly to SilkUI, will myself know nothing about the basic architecture of OutSystems?

- I am interested in  building my own apps which has no compatible apps even in SilkUI,so is Outsystems 10 Mobile or Web App from scratch is the best solution ?

sorry for ao many questions.

Have a nice day.tq

I'd suggest you follow the Mobile Developer guided path in our training. You should get all the insights you need.

Thanks though you don't really give me a clear direction. Outsystems started to have Mobile Apps in Oct 2016 and competing with wth PowerApps which was in GA in 1/Nov. I wish with my experience as the one of the main insider and contributor to PowerApps (since the first day in Jan 2016), is able to learn. Just worry about my capability.

Appreciate.

Hello PK Hong,

Use Silk UI will not impact your depth understanding of OutSystems. I think that the opposite will happen, using Silk UI will help you to understand better OutSystems, because it'll help you to focus more on the business logic and in your application architecture.

Silk UI will help you to have a better look and feel on your applications, so you can easily build a screen with a great UI.
Silk UI has sample apps, but they're just to help people understand what they can do with the Silk UI components.

I'm very curious about what applications you want to build. If you can, send a print and I can help you trying to understand which Silk Patterns can help you accelerate your developments. :)

Hope this clarifies your queries,

Cheers,
