How to configure IIS in XP before and after installing the OutSystems Express

Many of you have already attempted to install Express on Windows XP. If you already have IIS configured, setup will try to use it; if you don't, it will simply ignore IIS and install XSP.
This only works in Windows XP. If you are using Windows Vista, please don't do this!

If you really want to use IIS with your Express installation, you must properly configure it before installing the OutSystems Express Platform. To do so, follow these instructions:
  1. Access Control Panel, and from there choose Add/Remove Programs;
  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components;
  3. Choose the component Internet Information Services (IIS) and click the Details button;
  4. Make sure that components «Documentation» and «Common Files» are selected (checked). If not, check all of them;
  5. Choose the component «World Wide Web Service» and click the Details button;
  6. Make sure that the component «World Wide Web Service» is selected (checked). If not, check it;
  7. Press OK until you close all the dialog boxes (2), then press Next on the Windows Components Wizards;
  8. Press Next until everything is installed.

If you already have OutSystems Express with XSP installed, but would like to switch to IIS, it is still possible. First, you need to disable XSP, by stopping/disabling the XSP service and configuring it not to listen on port 80. Afterwards, you need to install IIS using the instructions above. After this is done, you only need to configure the OutSystems platform to use IIS instead of XSP. To do this, follow the instructions:
  1. With My Computer, find the location where the OutSystems Express platform is installed (typically C:\Program Files\OutSystems);
  2. Enter the folder Service Center;
  3. You will find a program named ServerSetup.exe. Run it;
  4. In this program, you will be able to choose between XSP and IIS. Choose IIS and press OK;
  5. Choose OK in every box asking you to restart OutSystems Services.
  6. Open a command prompt window (Start | Run | cmd.exe) and navigate to the folder where OutSystems Express is installed;
  7. Issue the command SCInstall.bat;

And that's it, you will successfully migrated your Express installation from XSP to IIS.
