How to capture the File path from an upload widget.(Web)

Hi,

When an upload widget is used and a file is selected only the fine name is appearing. Is there a way to capture the path or at least display the path.

Thanks,

Saiteja

Solution

Hi Saiteja,

No, the upload widget cannot do that. The application, that's running on the webserver, isn't aware of the file system on the local machine where you get the file from. It only gets the filename.

Cheers,

Lennart

Solution

Which is a good thing, otherwise it could be a pretty big security problem!

Hi Lennart ,

I Remember it as capturing the path. But I could not recreate it. Are your sure the widget cannot do that. Not even the web pattern version of file upload cannot do it ?

Thanks,

Saiteja

Hi Saiteja and sai,

Adding and reinforcing what Lennart as said, not even client side (e.g. using javascript) can you get the path of the file from the upload widget. The browser prevents that.

You can set your browser to lower those security measures but that is a terrible idea.

José
