External Database in Personal Environment

Hi all,

When trying to connect to an external database in my personal environment I keep getting a connection error, could this be because the database isn't a public database? and if so what type of environment will I need to avoid this?

I've read something somewhere that in order to connect your personal environment to a database it will need to be public but it was also a little vague so I want to double check in case this isn't the situation

Thank you

Hi Jojarah,

Your Personal Environment runs in the cloud, so if it must connect to a database, that database must be reachable from there.

Hi.

Your personal environment is on the cloud, not in your network.

If your DB is in a private network, PE can't get there. You must create some access point to the database from the outside.

Configuring the DB will depend on the type of server/DB you have. A quick google search can take you there.

the documentation that you linked is what I was following but once I reached the connect to table or view step I get an "error retrieving database" message

I will look into creating an access point thank you!

This issue occurs when the database user does not have access to the database/schema. Provide the proper database name and database user in the connection and make sure the user has access to the same.

Also, as suggested, make sure the database access point is working, if on private network.

Yes I had the same thought as you at first and checked if i can access the same table through sql server and I was granted access
