Experience with SIP trunking?

Good morning,

I've been asked if it is possible to develop an OutSystems app (mobile of web) with which you can make a phone call over IP. I'm picturing there will be a screen with a button to place the call and the time the call takes must be registered. So we have to somehow integrate with our (Avaya) telephone switchboard.

I've been told that something like this can be done with a SIP trunk. Does anyone know if this is possible with OutSystems or does anyone have experience with setting up such a SIP trunk?

I have no experience implementing the use case you're talking about. However I did some experiments with Twilio (https://www.twilio.com/voice) which references SIP in their Voice API.
