How do I show the empty columns in my bar chart/column chart as well?
Question

Hello everybody,

I created a bar chart to show the number of applications that the website we're working on receives per month. The bar chart only shows the months that we have data on, which currently is limited to April.

These are the chart's properties:

Is there anything I can do to display all the months from January to December - even though most of them will be empty?

Any help is much appreciated!

Hello Lotte.

The only issue here is that you don't have data for the rest of the months. You have to create that.

The easiest way is to have a static entity with the 12 months and make

MONTHS with or without (left join) APPLICATIONS.

That will do the trick.

Thank you for responding! Are there any other ways as well?

Hi Lotte,

Your problem seems to be the way you are obtaining your source data, not with displaying it in a Chart.

You seem to be showing Quarter information so that's what will be displayed, but your source of information needs to return Quarter information for those cases where there is no data as well...

So some sort of With or Without join (or LEFT JOIN if using SQL) like Nuno mentioned will be needed:
The left entity needs to be the entity that provides the label of your columns (a Months entity like Nuno suggests, a Quarter entity, maybe?) and on the right side the entity that provides the data you want displayed (the value of your column). This way you always get the columns, and if there's no data they will have a value of 0.

Hope this helps!
