Learning Outsystems - Career Change
Question

Hello Everyone,

I'm at the moment working in a complete different field of work, tourism, and it's getting incompatible with my personal life. I'm 31 and I don't have a IT related bachelor's degree. I have 0 experience with programming.

I'm looking to learn programming while working so I can make a career change in 1 or 2 years.

Outsystems looks a great way to start but I'd be interested in learning more abou other languages and systems.

Can anyone recommend a way to better learn Outsystems so in the end I can get some proof of experience and with that a job.

And your feedback if this is a realistic expectation.

Thank you in advance,

Rúben Garcia

Solution

Hello Rubén,

First of all, welcome to the community!

There are numerous possibilities to begin and learn OutSystems. You can choose to embark on a self-guided journey, following the guided paths and pursuing certifications at your own pace. I highly recommend starting with the reactive guide path. Alternatively, you can apply to OutSystems schools, which offer two-week courses provided by OS. You can also explore training partners by conducting a simple online search. Some academies to consider include ITUp, Academia de Código, RafaOutSystems, and more.

I've also noticed that you're based in Portugal, and I'd like to share my personal experience. I began my journey in a company three years ago with zero experience and knowledge in OutSystems. The company offered an internal boot camp for new developers, which spanned three months and provided guidance before we joined customer projects. This is a common practice in many large consultancy companies here, and you might find it beneficial to explore this option as well.

Best regards and best of luck on your OutSystems journey!

Hello Ana, thank you for your answer.

The idea of the bootcamp within a company sounds great. Do you know if the company still had that kind of iniciativa?

Yes, I believe they continue to have this type of initiative.

I recommend learning basic concepts before starting with OutSystems.

-SQL and data management
- HTML/CSS
- Javascript

Personally, I don't believe it is a good idea to learn outsystems before knowing these concepts
