Hi all,

I think the Service studio has major usability problems. One thing i'm noticing is that there should be a way to switch between action and screens in a faster way.

Imagine you are developing an action based on other action. If 2 tabs were open with each action the developer could easily switch back and forth and develop faster.
The way one has to do right now is constantly open each action, navigate to to desired SU, check its properties and then go back to the other action and do the same. This is extremely time consuming because of the time i it takes to to this procedures but also (and more important too) because i loose focus during the process. I'm not entirely focues on the task i have to do, but also on the constantly switch of environement.

I think it woud be a great addiction to the service center and fairly simple to develop.

Thank you,
Best Regards,
Emanuel Silva

I like the idea, I've found myself very often switching back and forth between two actions when e.g. making changes to an action that is similar to another one. Having two side-by-side (or four, or whatever amount I'd like to see at once on my screen) would be ideal for that.

Being able to show a screen layout alongside the associated actions would be very helpful.  Even multiple action flows need to be displayed side by side sometimes for comparison.  Other development tools provide for an unlimited number of simultaneous tabs.  While that does get unwieldy, a number of the developers I work with feel that the single tab per espace is an unwelcome restriction.

Having this would be awesome. Not having tabs to navigate between multiple actions/screen is a major drawback to Service Studio. It's one of my biggest complaints about the platform right now.

Like most IDE's, I would really like to have all tabs open at once (Processes, Interface, Logic, Data)

Either popping them out into their own windows which I can drag to different monitors, or by displaying these tabs side-by-side when there's enough width to do so.

Dear Team,

Outsystems is an awesome tool to build the application and it has everything for smart and fast development.

But I miss one feature in a service studio, that multiple tabs.

If we add multiple tabs feature then it's very easy for developers as well because we don't need to remember the names of the file OR  action.

Like the above picture, it's better if we can add multiple open tabs like other IDs have.

Hey Ritesh,

Not sure if I understood your idea since we already have Service Studio tabs being able to work on several modules simultaneously.

Cheers

Vasco,

I think he is talking about multiple tabs inside an module.

For example, open a screen in a tab and his preparation in another tab, etc...

Vasco,

yup Abilio is right, I m expecting multiple tabs inside a module.

In the attached screenshot (my first post), I'm expecting multiples tabs like (Tab1, Tab2, Tab 3...) for different-2 pages  OR any actions OR any View inside one module.

Yes! Could not agree more! There is a kinda-sorta support for it... you can take any of the popup windows and move them to the other monitor... but I'd love it if this was built-in supported for many more things.

Hi,

While working in OutSystems Service Studio, it would be good if we can open multiple windows in single module.

For example, if I am working on one UI screen and coding screen, I should be able to open both windows separately within the same module.

The Idea is basically make the module screen multiple windows functionality like Visual Studio. We can open multiple screens in the same solution with functionality such as close, close all, close all but this, etc...

This idea will reduce time of development as it will help users to work on both the pages in parallel instead of going forward and back to open each screen again and again.

Regards,
Palak Patel

Everything: actions, webscreens, webblocks, entities...

If I open a webscreen the previous object disappear and I have to go to the elements tree and open it again or use the back and forward arrows to navigate to them. As you can see in the first image (Visual Studio) I have two objects open in two tabs.

Hi Team,

I would like to be able to edit an action while taking a look at another part of the same action, as a reference. It would be specially useful in actions with a high number of nodes, since we can not see the whole action without scrolling through.

It could be useful to have the action split horizontally in two screens, where we could take a look at two parts of the same action.

Eventually this could be extended to work with different actions. (e.g. editing one while taking a look at another one, to keep consistency between actions.)

Yes! I would love this...

Not having to go back and forth between related actions/screens etc will save a lot of time and effort.

I especially like the idea of making movable windows, as that would work really well with multiple monitors.

It would be interesting the possibility of multi-tab in Service Studio.

In Service Studio there should be an option to open multiple screens/ action at the same time and show them in tab view like Microsoft Visual Studio. It will make switching between screen/ action fast & easy.

Below is the visual studio screenshot for reference.

You can open the same module multiple times, as well as opening SS multiple times.

Hi Daniel,

Yes, you are right we can open module multiple time and also open multiple SS instances and that is very useful. But opening same module multple time or multiple SS will not be that fast as compared (to switch) to multipel tabs within openced module.

Most of the IDEs have this option and is one of the most used feature in IDEs.

In service studio there should be one option to open multiple screen/ action etc in split view. This can be same as it is there in Microsoft Visual Studio. You can simply open any file in tab and drag and drop (either in left/ right or top/ bottom) to show in split view.

Below are visual studio screen shot for reference.

Yes, please!!!

Having only one screen makes us moving back and forward multiple times which is annoying.

I usually have to use 2 tabs for the same module just to checking around losing focus on where I'm editing. But they are not synchronized so I have to be careful not to edit and publish the wrong one (the one for view only).

Merged this idea with 'Allow to access multiple actions/screens as multiple tabs in Service studio' (created on 22 Jul 2020 02:29:06 by Farooq H)

Basically improved IDE, why not allow developer to open and keep multiple functions from various screens. If a developer is working on multiple screens or actions, it makes harder to switch between the actions or screens, which would involve lot of searching, scrolling or navigating back or forward buttons.,

instead give an option to hold few of recently opened actions/screen

Example:

Sometimes you need to copy or compare with another page to do something CSS or copy some variable from another page. Wish we can open more than one page at the same time.

In the meantime, you can open multiple modules in one Service Studio instance, and you can open multiple Service Studio instances.

10 years after and this feature is still not available? It would be a great feature to an even faster development!

Yes, you can work-around by having two separate instances of Service Studio for a single module, but then you have to publish and do a "Compare and merge..." to keep the instances in sync.

You shouldn't have to do that.  You should be able to have two separate windows (or at least window "panes") which are two views of the same underlying instance of the IDE.  For example, if you change the name of an item in one window, the name-change should be instantly reflected in the other window, as soon as you tab away or whatever, from the name change field.   This works in other software editors; we should be able to ask as much from this one also, if it's so great.

Not right now

No plan for this feature at the momment.

"No plan for this feature at the moment."

Not right now? So for 10+ years, users of OutSystems have been asking for the support for multiple windows, etc. for those who use multiple monitors and OutSystems is just going to ignore the popularity of such a feature?

Yes, OutSystems is going to ignore this, just like they ignore most other open top-10 items like "test an action". OS is a commercial company that focusses on getting Enterprises to adopt OS, and developer preferences are currently, unfortunately, lower on the priority list. And to be honest, I have a list of about 200 items (bugs and changes) that I'd like to see implemented before they implement this Idea :).
