Although Folders already offer more organization to the module, having Subfolders inside Folders would improve it.
Please ADD this Outsystems Team
Why not, but not totally essential.
add sub folder allow more organize in development
Where would you like to see sub folders?
in all please like server / services action , Database , flows like mendix
Add Folder functionality is available, in all those locations.
The only limitation is: one folder layer deep
But imho: when a module grows so much that multiple folders in folders need to be created, the module is too big. The module got too many responsibilities to take care of (not a functional limit, OutSystems can handle it with ease), but maintainability will take a hit and it hinders the modular approach you should have with development.
Double idea, merged!
Currently just a few elements, for example client acts can be organized by folders. It would be interesting all elements of the process, interface, logic and data, could be organized by folders and subfolders. Those we can already organize in folders only allow us a level of organization.
Folders can be created everywhere except for exceptions, REST APIs and multilanguage locale.
@Daniël Kuhlmann, but we cannot create subfolders. That would be the main point for the organization I propose. Many times, we need better organization based on more than one context, and only being able to create one level of folders can sometimes make organization a challenge.
Ok got it, the focus of your Idea is subfolders in folders.... I was distracted by your comment we cannot create folders everywhere.
I changed the status to new, and merge your idea in the same idea already posted in 2022.
For projects with a lot of images, it would be nice if you could add subfolders to the image folder to organise them.
Hey Zachary,
What Service Studio version are you using?
Since O11 you can already create folders for the majority of elements inside Service Studio including images, resources, scripts, entities, structures, etc.
Is this you were looking for?
Cheers,
Dear OutSystems Team, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to propose an enhancement that I believe would significantly improve the developer experience and the overall manageability of large-scale applications within OutSystems: increasing the number of subfolders that can be created inside modules. As projects grow in size and complexity, the current folder limitations can make it challenging to organize screens, actions, entities, and other components in a clean and scalable way. For enterprise-level applications—especially those involving multiple teams, domains, and architectural layers—having the ability to structure logic more deeply and intuitively is essential. Benefits of allowing more subfolders include: Better organization of complex business logic Clearer separation of functional areas Improved team collaboration and onboarding Easier maintenance over the application’s lifecycle Enhanced alignment with architecture best practices Expanding the folder hierarchy would empower developers to build and maintain more sophisticated solutions while keeping modules clean, readable, and scalable. I kindly request your consideration of this enhancement in future platform updates, as it would bring meaningful value to teams working on complex OutSystems projects. Thank you very much for your time and attention. I look forward to your feedback. Warm regards,
I would like OutSystems to support nested folders inside Server Actions and Client Actions.Currently, we can only create a flat folder structure, which makes organization difficult in large applications.Allowing folders within folders would improve modularization, readability, and maintainability.
