Although I get what you try to fix, a person should do this check BEFORE creating a new component. 

And given that I almost daily merge duplicate Ideas, I don't think a duplicate asset warning/check will stop people from uploading a component that already exists.

Also Forge assets are moderated, and if we find one that is a true duplicate it will not be accepted.

It’s correct we can’t stop anyone from publishing a forge component but if it’s possible we can ask how is this asset different to the one already present ?

Not sure that's a good idea as there may be to components doing the same thing with different approaches and performance. It's an open market place. But yes we must have a method to flag the component as a clone/ insecure or any other reason for it to be taken down that can be then reviewed by the moderators. Not sure if that feature exits.
