Improve Private Messaging in OutSystems Profile Messages

I have two suggestions to enhance the private messaging feature on the OutSystems platform (https://www.outsystems.com/profile-messages):

1. Add Edit Option for Sent Messages

  • Currently, there is no option to edit a message after it's sent. It would be helpful to have an edit icon or option to quickly fix typos or update the message content without sending a follow-up message.

2.  Allow .OAP/.OML File Uploads in Private Messages

  • As of now, only image files can be attached in private messages. It would be very useful to support attaching .oap or .oml files as well, especially when discussing technical issues or sharing modules privately. Please consider allowing these file types or increasing the file size limit to support them.

⚠️ While the forum allows these files, private messaging is preferred when sharing sensitive or internal information.

This is a nice idea that enhancing the private messaging system in OutSystems profiles could really boost community collaboration. The message history and real time notifications would make communication smoother and more engaging.

But my concern is privacy and moderation. May be the right balance like adding message filters, block or report features and encryption. it could be a great value add for the platform. It would also reduce the need to move conversations to LinkedIn or email.

Why would you want to edit a sent message, but not send the followup message. Messages are like emails not chat. Regarding sharing OAP/OML for O11 this has to do with IPP. You can still share, just share first email or use file share services like wetransfer. I don't think this happens so common to justify it to be developed.

Hi @Daniël Kuhlmann,

Thank you for your response!

I agree that follow-up messages are always an option. However, having an edit feature would help correct minor typos or formatting issues in the original message, especially when clarity matters — much like how LinkedIn or forums allow post edits even though replies are possible. It’s not about replacing the message but improving readability and professionalism.

Regarding OAP/OML sharing — I understand the IPP limitations for O11. My suggestion was mainly aimed at ODC or internal/private environments where teams might want to quickly exchange modules during one-on-one troubleshooting. Of course, external tools like WeTransfer work, but native support could streamline collaboration and reduce friction.

Thanks again for considering the ideas!
