Refresh References

References
On our radar
Be able to refresh a Reference by right-clicking an option menu over an existing reference in ESpace explorer reference's folder.

In the References' popup screen it would be nice to have a button/link to refresh the existing Espaces or Extensions without having close e reopen the popup References' screen.

How would you know what was changed in those espaces?
This "quick-refresh" option can be used when you haven't changed the signature (changed parameters) of an Action, Web-block, etc..., because you just simply renamed the object, and whenever you want to simply refresh the reference, letting "True Change" feature do its job, by pointing out errors and warnings.

When I refresh references I just want to have them refreshed, and then go after the impact of it.

It would be very useful to update the references directly from the menu bar without necessarily having to go into Manage Dependencies and wait to ride the entire tree, this tree assembly process is slow and not having to assemble visually help to reduce this time.

and when you press that button and there is a warning, than just open the popup.

Hello Ali,

Not sure if I understood the idea. Which toolbar are you referring to?

Can you have a simple mockup on what you wanted?

Cheers,

Hi Vasco,

my idea was to put refresh all dependency icon in this area.

It can be enhance by visual like being red on dependency broken so we can update before publishing.

Cheers,

Most of the times if I need to refresh all dependencies I need to open Manage Dependencies to then refresh them all. So the idea here will be to have a button without need to open a popup to refresh dependencies. This will optimize development time because in mobile for example most of times is need just to refresh the main eSpace.

Situations to consider: breaking changes, in this case the button will be disable. The same happens if we don't have anything to refresh.

Is this similar enough to the various "automatically refresh references" Ideas out there to merge them, do you think?

Currently, if there are outdated references in an espace it requires 6 clicks to update all references in said espace.

1) Open espace

2) Update Refs button

3) Refresh All Refs button

4) OK button

5) 1 click publish

6) Close espace

(And continues to the next espace.)

As we have a minimum of 19 espaces required for a clean Lifetime Publish without errors, this requires at least 18 publishes, a total of 108  clicks minimum just to get to the point that we can open LifeTime to move code.

There are a great deal of change types (layouts, actions, intra-espace mods) that don't cause errors on update all refs, meaning this would be a huge help.

The existing structure for updating refs en-mass have serious problems. (The open all referenced will cause Studio to have memory overflow issues, re-publishing the solution never seems to update refs no matter how many times you run it, etc.)

This means even to test changes midway down the espace flow, we must spend a great deal of time updating references.

Running a full lifetime of our application to prod can take upwards of 2 hours from start to end when you include the time required for updating refs.

A 1 click update refs solution from studio, outside the espace, would greatly improve efficiency, usability, and user experience for customers with large applications.

Thanks!

Braxton Bragg

Can you just clone the "Refresh All" button inside the manage dependencies and put it on the menu bar?
