Keep Service Studio organised

Service Studio
On our radar

It would be really great if you in someway could organise your service studio. There are of course possible ways, like;

- adding folders (the independent modules is a kind of misc folder)

- 4-LC organised

If this structure is also applied in the Manage Dependencies, that could also really help in finding the right modules  :-) This could be another idea in itself...

Makes sense, providing architecture concepts to developers!

The same "need of organization" may be present in LifeTime also.

Hi Evert,

I guess that are actually 2 different ideas:

-This one is about "organizing Applications" (in Service Studio)

-The one you refer (and thank you for being attentive) is about organizing "Entities" under "Database" tab "Data", into folders; the same with "Structures"...

Cheers

Thanks António, that's indeed it. This idea is based around organising your applications in Service Studio.

This idea is related with this one actually:
https://www.outsystems.com/ideas/2691/organize-environment-applications-in-service-studio

Since this idea already mixes a lot of use cases and problems (quickly filter apps, groups, favorites, ...) I'll keep this one just for the grouping and 4 LC.

Cheers,

Nice, I think should be sub-folders for Actions as well

Agree with Antonio, this idea is related with organizing the Application List screen inside Service Studio.

For folders we already have the following ideas:

Cheers,

Merged this idea with 'Application Categories - Environment Tab' (created on 20 Jun 2018 13:31:30 by Francois Wooding)

Would be great to have the functionality to group installed modules in their own categories with the ability to hide/expand category.

That way you can group your Applications, Plugins and Dependencies in their own group and not have a cluttered environment.

Would be nice to customize, as we all have our own way of looking at things :-)

Merged this idea with 'Application Grouping/Categorizing on the Servicestudio canvas' (created on 08 May 2018 06:39:04 by Jeroen Bezemer)

Hi,

My apologies if this has been posted earlier. I did some global searching and could not find something similar.

At several customers the amount of applications is growing very fast and it's not always easy to see what is currently ment as PoC or just there for testing purposes and what's developed as an actual application. Especially when your starting out with an existing environment.

So therefore I think it would be nice to have the possibility to group applications, make something like an additional layer (Categories) to applications.

These categories can be separate tabs or just Icons on the canvas to open up and see the applications.

Extend the Move to functionality with moving to categories as well.

At first I don't think these categories are needed to be used/seen in Lifetime (for now), only ment for giving some structure to the application canvas.

Just my 2 cents..;)

Or at the very least have a "quick search" capability so you can just hit J and jump to the applications beginning with J.

Also be nice to be able to display applications as a list or small icons.

:) I just downloaded the latest service studio and the searching is done already :) Huge improvement.

Merged this idea with 'Group Application tiles in Development Environment' (created on 08 May 2018 09:51:17 by Frank Grooten)

The number of tiles is increasing at a high speed when including dependandies.  It becomes pretty cluttered and feels very unorganized..

I would like to be able to group extensions like you can group apps on your iphone.

Hey Frank,

What do you mean with Application tiles? The modules/espaces/extensions inside an application or the applications themselves?

Can you send a screenshot?

Cheers,

Hi Vasco,

I mean the applications as shown below. Since I 'only got started' I assume the number of applications will increase even more in time. I'd like to group all the applications which I'm only consuming and don't need to edit. Or maybe hide/display them with filter.

Hey Frank, got it!

There are already 2 related ideas with this one:
- The first one (https://www.outsystems.com/ideas/2691/), is related to help developers find the applications they want to edit (there is actually several ways to do it, some of them mentioned by you). We implemented a new Application List page last Service Studio release that allows you to quickly filter the apps or jump to recent modules.

- The second one (https://www.outsystems.com/ideas/4741/) is still on our radar and it is more related  with having groups of applications and namely mirroring  architecture principles and guidelines.

I think your idea is more related to the second one so I'll merge them (number of likes will also be merged).

Merged this idea with 'Downloaded Plugins Filter on Service Studio Environment main page' (created on 05 Jun 2018 16:56:05 by João Gameiro)

Sometimes when i finish to download a plugin from the Forge, because i have a lot of applications and plugins on my environment, i get confused and take a little time to find what i´ve downloaded. It could be of some help to have a button or something to show only what has been downloaded and be able to sort it by Date.

Merged this idea with 'Ability to filter web and mobile application on service studio application list screen' (created on 08 May 2018 07:07:24 by Rajan C)

We want an option to filter web and mobile applications on service studio application list like forge list

Merged this idea with 'Service Studio Desktop' (created on 19 Jul 2018 20:40:16 by Bob Casey)

I have an idea for the Desktop in Service Studio.  Right now the list in the main body(great improvement with left margin; most recent) sorts the applications in alphabetical order.  When I worked for a customer for several years, we eventually had about 100 to 200 applications in Dev and about half that in the rest.  But a dev is usually working in Dev.  My idea is to create an optional view similar to the canvas view(4 levels of architecture).  Because we use taxonomy to define our application architecture level, why not go ahead and provide a property along with the name of the application  to designate what level of architecture the app is.  This will also motivate developers to think about it as well.  So when picking the "Canvas" sort.  You separate your applications by architecture level.  So there  would be 4 distinct areas in the desktop.  When filtering that by application name, perhaps use the dependencies to determine which applications are related.  I suggest this because when I eventually had 10s of applications to search through, it became a frustration to locate the application quickly.

Merged this idea with 'Filter or grouping of applications in Service Studio Dashboard' (created on 21 Jul 2018 08:46:09 by Daniël Kuhlmann)

It would be nice to have an option to show/hide all components downloaded from the Forge. Most of these components you reference only in your working projects, most of the time you just reference an use them and that is it. But they are always visible.

Benefits of this show/hide toggle is that you than see only the list of applications you created yourself.
