Possibility to choose or create database per application

Database
On our radar

In current situation all applications have the same database, and because of that it is almost impossible to restore data for a specific application.

Ideally it should be possible to choose/create a database for an application.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it is currently possible to define different database catalogs, and then configure application(s) to use these alternative catalogs?

Not when using PaaS :(

Hi Martin,

Thank you for your contribution. I would like to ask you some questions regarding this:

  • The current backup/restore mechanisms provided by the cloud do not serve you well? Why?
  • You are telling that you would like to choose a database per application. Other than the restore use case, do you have other use cases for it?

Since we are currently evaluating this, I will mark this idea as in our radar.

Cheers

Hi Tiago,

The backup/restore mechanisms are technically working fine. But since it's a single database it's impossible to restore data for a single application. At the moment a temp restore is been done where the data can be extracted from. Then it has to be imported to the live database.
And for migrating databases to an other environment. We provide applications for multiple customers, but when the applications starts growing sometime it's necessary to migrate to there own platform.

Cheers Martin

Hi Martin,

Thank you a lot for your reply and clarification about the use case where you are being impacted.

Regarding you last statement, why do you feel the need to move to their own platform when applications start to grow?
