Just like "Action's" folder allow user to add folders to the Entity and Structure tree.

Just for the record, this idea and this one are duplicates of the one here.
Oh, and this one as well.
Would be nice to have the option to create folders inside structures on Service Studio.

All related strutures could be in the same folder, for example, if i have a entity name "Entity1", all related strutures could be inside a folder named "Entity1".

This has been proposed, in a broader fashion, before, viz. to allow all folders (e.g. images) to have sub folders, like actions. Can't be bothered to check though.

also would be nice to create folders inside "images" on service studio.

For entities and structures, this one seems the original one (there are two other duplicates). For images, there's already this one.

It could be really useful to create folders in structures (similar to server actions) so you can group structures together. This could allow the folder be selected as a whole in dependencies or even made public with the flick of a switch.

I agree to this one. I would also like to see it for Session Variables, Site properties and resources.

I agree, but disagree with Johan's remark.

Mainly because session and site proprties should be not many items anyways.

resources I agree though :)

If you're dealing with a complex system, you can easily end up with a very large number of entites and structures on the data tab, which leads to a lot of scrolling up or down to find the right object. Being able to organize these entities/structures into folders so that you can expand/collapse different parts of the list, makes everything a bit more manageble.

I like it.
I just hope moving entities from 1 folder to another will break references, like the actions

The idea is nice, but note that when designing the architecture for your solution, you probably should identify small, reusable components and build them in independent eSpaces, instead of building the data mode in just one module. It will ease reutilization and maintenance.
Check out this link about it: https://www.outsystems.com/forums/discussion/9198/questions-about-4-layer-architecture/

I meant "virtual folders".  These folders would have nothing to do with the physical entities or the way they are implemented.  It should simply be a way to visually organize entities and structures in the tree, so portions can be collapsed and expanded to make the navigation of the structure easier on the developer.

It would be nice to have something like a Tree Folder Browsing to manage the Resource folder in Service Studio, for the cases where we need to import some .js's, css's, .swf's for example.

Currently the Service Studio only allows the user to add resources file by file into a eSpace.
It would be great it we could select a folder or set of folders and add to the eSpace.

I believe that this should be merged with this:

https://www.outsystems.com/ideas/Idea_View.aspx?IdeaId=750

While they are not identical, the general gist is that the "resources" system should act like a basic file system tool, and not the current list of items that is very difficult to work with (says the guy who used updating the CK Editor's hundreds of files as a way of helping a new employee learn the system...).

The resources folder in Service Studio should have drag and drop support like the images folder.

This way it should be possible to add multiple resources at a time or even complete folders.

For the time being, you can use a command line switch to open Service Center to import resources by a folder of file mask. Not ideal, but fantastic if you have hundreds to do (like when updating CK Editor).

Hi guys,

Thanks for sharing your feedback and ideas! We are using them more and more to build a better product!

I’m happy to announce that, as of ServiceStudio version 10.0.613.0 (available here), you’ll be able to import resources by dragging and dropping multiple files with any kind of extension (.js, .txt, .json, .swf, ...) to the Resources folder (or directly to the module node):

Hope you enjoy it ;)

Please give us feedback,

Cheers!

It is better now but only allows dragging of files not folders and you have to edit each file individually to set a folder

Any chance this can be extended to allow folders to be uploaded and to populate the target folder automatically? As with Rui's case trying to import something like ckeditor is a real paid, lots of files and lots of folders.

Alternatively importing a zip file and having it auto extract would be perfect.

I think this is simple and would be of great help for us.

Creating folders inside the Images section of Service Studio would give the ability to organize this section if we have a large number of images.

For integration with some JavaScript plugins, folders inside the Resources area could help this task, like a plugin themes folder which includes CSS’s and images for each theme.

This indeed would be a nice one. Now I'm giving the images 'same names' so they at least stand together. But having folders is a better way to do it :).

It sould be possible and awesome to have the possibility to group images and resources on folders and subfolders inside Service Studio.

It would also allow a better organization and struturation of our web applications.

Make it possible to organise your Processes and Timers in Folders; just as it is possible in Logic now.

Did you mean, processes and timers from Processes tab should be allowed to put in Folder as we have in logic and remove separation between Processes and Timer?

Please provide more explanation.

Having that many variables/actions in a Screen that you find yourself needing to organize them better is a HUGE red flag. And it will lead to technical issues too, like viewstate being too big.

Stijn -

I know it won't affect the viewstate.

What I'm saying is that if you need this to make things more readable, it is a SIGN that your screen has too many items, which CAN cause problems such as viewstate being too large.

I propose re-think the Screen Flows subject so that you can organize WebScreens and WebBlocks by folders and subfolders and leave Screen Flows in a higher level just to organize navigation and entry points

Merged this idea with 'Organizing entities & structures into folders in SS' (created on 2013-03-08 00:16:55 by Izak Joubert)

The idea is nice, but note that when designing the architecture for your solution, you probably should identify small, reusable components and build them in independent eSpaces, instead of building the data mode in just one module. It will ease reutilization and maintenance.

I meant "virtual folders".  These folders would have nothing to do with the physical entities or the way they are implemented.  It should simply be a way to visually organize entities and structures in the tree, so portions can be collapsed and expanded to make the navigation of the structure easier on the developer.

Merged this idea with 'Be able to create sub-folders on Processes and Timers folders on Service Studio' (created on 20 Jul 2018 09:52:57 by Gonçalo Azambujo)

The idea is to be possible to have the same functionality that already exist on "Logic" tab on service studio where we can add sub-folders to the "Server Action" folder.

Would be nice if we could also create sub-folders on "Processes" and "Timers" folders on "Processes" tab.

That would allow us to organize timers and processes, if we want, in sub-folders by logic, topics, etc... and to more easily identify and search a specific process or timer.

Merged this idea with 'Allow grouping/association of equal structures' (created on 15 Jul 2010 14:58:29 by Hermínio Mira)
Sometimes you end up having 2, or 10, structures in your eSpace which are the same altough imported from different places. It would be nice to be able to say that they are the same, because they actually are! :)

Not grouping or associating (since one of them might need to change) but perhaps relax a bit strong typing, allowing to assign different structures as long as they have the same fields and types.

I would be more keen on following the Inheritance OO concept and allow them to inherit properties from a base source.... there would be no need for grouping since you could build on top of once single centralized base structure.

Hey guys,

I'm glad to announce that, with the release of OutSystems 11, you can create folders almost everywhere including entities and structures.

As usual, a special thank you to the idea creator, Robert, in our release notes.

Don't forget to check OutSystems 11 what's new to see all the new features that were released:

Merged this idea with 'Create SubFolder on Structures / Other Root Folder' (created on 05 Oct 2018 01:30:08 by David Kristiawan)

I have in mind that Service Studio could create sub folder on Structures folder, and also the other root folders (like Site Properties, Session Variables, Database, etc)

It will good if It could be more manageable, like grouping by module / private-public / other reasons.

Thanks.
