Instead of uploading oap file is it possible to have an option in service studio or service centre to publish new version to Forge?

Changed the category to
Community Forge

Hi Abdul that's a very good idea, thank you for the suggestion.

I'd like to hear more about this.

For you, what would be the best placement for something like this?

What are you usually doing in Service Studio / Service Center at the moment prior to the forge upload? Thank you for your time.

Keep sending ideas.

When managing Forge components, to create a new one or update an existing one, you need to go through these steps:

  • Download the application from the development environment;
  • Upload the application to the Forge (from the wizard);
  • Download the example application from the development environment;
  • Upload the example application to the Forge (from the wizard).

That's fine if you're doing it once in a blue moon, but if you manage a number of Forge components with semi-frequent updates it's quite a pain. What would be ideal is to be able for the Forge site to directly (after supplying credentials of course) connect to a cloud environment and fetch the apps from there (when creating a new component you'd need to select the right ones, when updating a component it could automatically scan for the right ones). This would save a ton of manual work and would make the lives of Forge component maintainers a lot better.

If we must log into the Forge and browse to the component, I see advantages in having a "fetch latest version" button.

But only from PE. I don't want my company cloud accessed by any external site.

Unless there is some integration in Lifetime and you can send your projects to the Forge. That could be a thing (again, we are talking of two different accounts so Community credentials are entered at some point, but companies won't mind as long as their credentials and servers are secure).

It would be great if there was a feature to Publish new components directly from a service studio like Git on Visual Studio.

This makes it easier in the process of making or updating the latest version of the component to the forge from the service studio directly without having to download it first to the local computer then upload it manually to the forge.
