Web developing means having to working in many aplications including many browsers that makes us lose focus on service studio Playing sound on done or erro during run or publish could help keeping notion on the state of the application while on other windows

How many times didn't Service Studio finishes Publishing and we're not aware and precious time is wasted?
It would be a cool idea if a ring could be set as an option on ServiceStudio!

Ha, best idea ever :) Just yesterday I was thinking that I'd like a sound when it's finished publishing. We have these large eSpaces that can take a minute or more, and just staring at the screen is not very productive...

My thought exacly Kilian! 
We could also choose/add a sound in ServiceStudio menu somehere. How hard can that be to implement in ServiceStudio? :)

I often go off to do other work while Service Studio is publishing, since it takes quite a while on my connection speed. This leads me to coming back to SS several minutes after I need to. I think this would be a nice feature to help productivity: Once publishing ends, play a sound or a fanfare to let you know that the publishing has finished. Most motion graphics and video editing applications do this once a render has finished - why shouldn't OS? :)

Hey Ricardo,

Although we understand the problem you're trying to solve (not knowing when a module is already published, something that can take awhile), but we don't have plans to play a sound for that.

In our vision, to achieve this, the status of the 1CP should be visible even if you chan ged tabs (e.g. showing some visual clue directly on the tab) so that you can quickly check if the operation is done. This was already reported in this idea:

We can either mark this idea as out of scope or merge it into the other one (increasing the number of likes). What do you prefer?

In my opinion that solution is not enough. We do a lot of different things at the same time on different applications and don’t have the luxury to stare at the service studio all the time. 

Set a fanfare or ping sound or prepare yourselves for a mutiny of angry developers picketing at OutSystems headquarters.

Yes, I totally agree, playing a sound is like 5 minutes work to implement, and it would tremendously help when publishing that takes some time. Yes, an indication on the tab would be nice, but more often than not, I'm having two or even three instances of SS open, and I'm not watching the tabs that are publishing.

Hello Kilian and Rui,

I was looking at your suggestions, and taking into account Vasco's comment, I remembered that Visual Studio's approach could be an alternative:

My idea was something like this: 

- Keep a green 'loading' state while a module is being published;

- Remove the animation when the Publish is successfully completed;

- Have a red highlight when there is an error


What do you guys think?

Hi Helder (and everyone),


Don't take this the wrong way but if the 'idea' is to have a sound cue for when the publish task ends.

What fellow OutSystems staff is offering are visual cues. Although they are also nice ideas, they are not the same. 

If someone creates a new idea called 'Visual cue for when the publish ends', it will have my 'Like'. But nevertheless those are different ideas and they do not replace one another. 

That's how I see it. Thank you.

A good portion of my time spent with outsystems is waiting for a publish to be finished so I can move to another module to publish. 
During this time you want to do other things, but you always have to pop back to the outsystems module to see if it's finished.


Please please please, just add a simple ding when a publish finishes, this would change my day to day life.

Hi,

I see your point believe you are not the first one to mention it. I probably merge your idea if I find a similar older idea.

But did you known that when you press 1CP and then click on another module, that there will appear a green check mark on the module you pressed 1CP, as soon as the publish finished? 

So you get a visual indication (not) sound while you are in another module.

I do understand that this is only helpfull while service studio window is visible. But nowadays where most developers have 2 or 3 screens that is in many cases easy to arrange.

Hello Daniël,

Thank you for taking a look at the idea, I am aware of the icon that appears on publishing. I find that it's very small, and in some cases while jumping around modules there's the occasion where the module publishes at just the right time which switching modules and it's eventually missed that it is finished publishing.

I wish that icon was more robust, showing a state when it's in currently being published (spinning arrows), as well as a delay after it finishes that keeps it showing even if you switch to the module and jump to another. 

But beyond that it'ss a bit of a moot point, I don't feel that just a visual indicator is enough. I specifically believe an audio indicator is necessary.

One situation that I'm sure is very common for a lot of developers is hitting publish, running over and grabbing a coffee or something within the vicinity of ones computer and having to run back and check on the status repeatedly. This solves that.

In addition, my thoughts: add settings within the Edit>Preferences to enable/disable this sound notification.

And perhaps a way to change the played sounds. (Replace sound files locally or through Edit>Preferences)

That thread does look like an identical idea. It also includes the conversation on visuals replacing audio which parallels my feeling that they are different needs.


I also want to explicitly note that the current icon on a 4k screen is very small.
