Aggregates & Queries

Sometimes when the Aggregates have many entities and attributes it's hard to find a column/attribute.

In my case, i had issues to find the column i wanted to group by and it took me a lot of time to find it.

I think this idea can help improve the development speed.

I have also often felt this pain.

Yup, really annoying when having 20 Entities with 20 columns each :)

I really need this!!

Merged this idea with 'Aggregates improvement - Visual Filters' (created on 28 Nov 2018 13:01:49 by Romero)

Sometimes I just want to check a specific value on my query and If I am testing my simple query and it happens to have at least 5-6 entities with 9 columns each it I have at least 45 to 54 attributes. Although we have the table name to help I don't think that it is enough, even more when we have some attributes collapsed

In order to improve this, we could do it in two simple ways :

1st - Add one dropdown to filter per Entity (this filter is visual only, not one query filter )

2nd - Apply colors to be easier to find the entity/attribute.

Everytime you add one entity to the aggregate you can choose a color for it ( changing this color would not automatically apply according to the new change's on the aggregate. You would have to press the "refresh now" as we usually do to check changes) or if you don't,  apply's the default one.

Hi Romero,

I like your idea, as I feel that pain quite often.

A 3rd and simpler option could be just having a search box to type the entity attribute we're looking for. This option could also allow the use of wildcards to search for those attributes, such as the asterisk.

Cheers!

Hi Ricardo,

I like your suggestion as well ! This idea is very generic since it can be done in many ways. I just feel the need to have some visual filters for the aggregate.

Maybe the title should be changed to "Aggregates improvement - Visual Filters" (if any moderator see's this please change in order to be more specific).

Pedro Cardoso

I agree that finding an attribute in such a scenario is a big pain. There's definitely work to be done there. I don't have a suggestion, but I bet guys at R&D are able to come up with a great solution if we give the feedback of how real the pain is :)

Pedro I agree that R&D can provide us with this new feature in many ways, so feedback on this one is highly appreciated from all of us  !

This feature is needed for yesterday guys.. It is impossible to work with more than 5 entities in the same aggregate, it's just a mess and time consuming searching for what i really want to check.

@Outsystems, could you merge this idea with this one:

Still can't believe that the platform has grown and improved so much in so many ways and we still have to search for a specific field in the middle of other 60 attributes and on top of that pay attention cause it might be collapsed...

Very good idea, specially the colors for entities.

There is a workaround for finding an attribute with ease, use the Hide Others context menu from any attribute then from the data tab drag the attributes you want to see in the preview.

Hi Luís,

Thank you so much for your idea. I am marking it as "On our radar" because this is something I believe our community would benefit from while dealing with Aggregates. We'll keep in touch. Thanks!

Merged this idea with 'Improve show/hide columns inside of an aggregate' (created on 26 Feb 2021 11:40:59 by Goncalo Almeida)

Sometimes when we have several entities inside of an aggregate it's hard to set the columns that we want to see.

My suggestion is in the menu of the dropdown of a column, create a new option, opening a submenu with the entities and another one with the attributes of each entity with a multi-select in order we can check-uncheck the columns we want to see/hide.

here is the screenshot of my idea.

I totally back your idea, Gonçalo. It's really difficult to manage a lot of columns in an aggregate without features that help us find and go to directly what we want.

Additionally, I would like to have an option to bulk remove custom columns. Today it's only possible to remove one column at a time.

Cheers!

Are you looking to add a filter to the query? Or to search for a specific attribute in the list so you can do an aggregate, group by, hide it, etc.?

Sometimes in large aggregates it is not easy to find an attribute that I want to group or apply formula on. Especially if there is lots of hidden attributes and I just need one. It would be helpful to have a search like input that allows to type attribute name so it can be focused or shown on aggregate table.

If we have an entity with lots of columns, it gets really painful and time-consuming when trying to look for a specific column in order to check the data values within that column.

There should be a search input that filters only the columns of the entity in order to make this task easier and faster.

Hi all,

Presume that I have join 7 entities and it produces more than 70 attributes in the aggregate view. Then, I need to group by some attributes and do some functions on other attributes. It takes me a time to scroll and find the attribute to choose whether group or count or max or ...

My idea is to include the search function to find exact attribute among more than 70 attributes

Hope someone be in the same situation as me

I totally support your idea, Shingo!

I've been in that situation several times and, among other improvements that should be implemented in aggregates, that is the feature I miss the most. I hope it makes it into the product sometime soon.

Cheers!

This would be really awesome!

Just by having an aggregate with even a few entities, the list of shown attributes becomes big in an instant.

Right now it's really hard to check some test data, without having to delete columns from the aggregate and having to drag them once again.

Either implement this, or when adding an Entity to an Aggregate, make the number of added attributes much smaller (e.g.: just a Label/Description and maybe a DateTime too if applicable).

The remaining attributes could be "dragged" by the programmer, which could give us more control, to which data we want to see on the Aggregate test view.

Hello,

I think it would be useful to allow the selection of attributes/columns to be displayed in the aggregates preview. I know it's already possible to hide all columns or hide columns one by one, but a multi-selection of the columns you want to see would be really nice.

Bogdan

It would be very cool to have a dropdown where you can select which attributes/entitys you want to display/put visibly on the aggregate, select, and search for.

If I have for example 8 sources and each source as 20 attributes, it's kind of messy to be looking around for the specific column(attribute) we want to see.

Merged this idea with 'Accelerator for hiding entities in Aggregates' (created on 22 Apr 2021 02:20:52 by Daniel Tavares)

In aggregates with many tables, scrolling right and left and sometimes having to unhide a number of specific attributes can be a time-consuming process.

A simple solution would be to have an additional "Include in Data Preview" checkbox next to the Source Entities.

When adding sources all entities would have the checkbox active by default. Removing the "check" would automatically hide that entity in the data preview.

Yes! This would increase user experience so much!

Excellent idea! Some entities are used just as join table to another entities and don't have to show up in the data preview.

Merged this idea with 'Add more control over displayed attributes in Aggregates' (created on 06 Sep 2022 12:23:54 by João Franco)

Right now, you have 4 or more joins, you have to scroll the attributes list and hide all the others that you don't need to make sense of what you are doing at the moment.

There should be a way to hide and show the attributes that are being displayed in the aggregate that wouldn't make me scroll back and forth and lose a lot of time.

This would help when developing and when I need to revisit the code. Also, most of times, I don't have direct access to the database, so Aggregates and Advanced Queries are the SQL IDE available to query database for analysis purposes.

Cheers
