Images are huge database space consumers. Any easy way to optimized them is welcome. TinyPNG uses smart compression techniques to reduce the file size of JPEG and PNG files. By selectively decreasing the number of colors in the image, fewer bytes are required to store the data. The effect is nearly invisible but it makes a very large difference in file size! From my experience, it reduces the file size in 70%.

The only configuration needed is to get the API Key from the TinyJPG website (you get 500 compressions/month for free) and to set it as the site property APIKey.

The public action ShrinkImage receives a binary file (image) and returns the compressed image, as well as the sizes for comparison and the number of compressions made for controlling.
