To make life easier for checking if the component is up to date, and also to be possible to install it directly from the Forge, could you make it available as an Application (.oap) and not as a Solution (.osp)?

You include both the extension (.xif) and the module (.oml) in the application.
As we have done it manually in our infrastructure.
Download the application (.oap) and upload it to the Forge.
