Native support for websocket (socket.io) to enable companies to build real-time data applications

https://socket.io/

Note: We could setup node.js and socket.io on our own then integrate this with outsystems apps with but not everyone is going to know how to do that!

Websocket is common these days.

In Outsystems connecting to websocket server is done through javascript. It will be good if service studio allows a way to test connection and during runtime holds the connection through an option (may be a widget or in Integrations or somewhere).

Also, allow headers to be added to the websocket connection(other technologies like Nodejs allows to add headers).

Hi Mukul,

Indeed, having real-time collaborative apps is becoming more and more popular (as can be seen by the amout of websocket and firebase components on the forge). We're changing the status of this idea so we can monitor it more closely.

Merged this idea with 'Would the outsystems community benefit from a low / No-Code WebSocket server builder?' (created on 08 Jan 2023 16:01:31 by Hamzah Amer)

I’m considering building a No/Low-Code WebSocket server builder tool to work along side an outsystems websocket client and I’m wondering if it would be something that would be useful to the outsystems community.

WebSockets are a great way to build real-time, two-way communication between a client and server, and I think a no-code tool for building WebSocket servers could be really valuable for people who want to build interactive, real-time applications without having to write any code.

Before I ditch my idea entirely, do you think people would be interested in something like this? Do you think it would be helpful for low / no-code projects?

Thanks for your feedback!

Merged this idea with 'WebSocket Implementation through Outsystems.' (created on 31 Aug 2023 11:18:57 by Hariharan Rajasekaran)

Till now, WebSocket connection was done through Javascript.

I don't think this was more effective way for WebSocket Implementation on Outsystems.

It would be better if Outsystems provides Simple Integration Method for WebSocket with more Security also, along with Trigger event.

Good idea, but you can also search the Idea page for similar ideas.

In this case, with just the keyword 'websocket' I found these:

https://www.outsystems.com/ideas/12687/would-the-outsystems-community-benefit-from-a-low-no-code-websocket-server-buil/

https://www.outsystems.com/ideas/6754/allow-webscocket-connect-and-test-option/

https://www.outsystems.com/ideas/1696/native-support-for-real-time-data-applications-via-websocket/

Maybe these can all be merged, to combine the amount of votes/visibility.
