Coming up this situation , other data type expect Binary we can edit , I think same should be for Binary Data when need to edit direct in entity.
Should have option to edit null binary
I voted for your idea, I am 99% sure this idea already exists but could find it quickly. If I do will still merge it.

This is on our radar to be implemented.
This idea is already implemented for some time now, I'm updating the status.
