It would be better if Outsytems provide a Notification/Warning over Service Center/Lifetime of On-premises platforms if they are using/having an older Version of On-premises Platform Server to upgrade to higher/latest version and utilize new functionality/features that latest version having.

It is not mandatory to upgrade but it would be better to aware users. If they are seeing warning/Notification, they might get aware and do platform upgrade.

Notification/warning should be start showing if they are using Platform server 10/15 version prior to latest one.

The only reason It is always a good practice to have latest version deployed and in use.

Well first of all if you are managing a factory be it hosted by OutSystems or OnPrem as a customer or delivery partner to a customer it is your responsibility to keep an I on platform updates and define an update strategy.

It is not per se a good practice to always have the latest version deployed. Different strategies are used for good reasons. Some are:

  • Never use a .0 version, as it has new features that are bound to have some issues, instead always opt for the first .1 or .2 patch version. These tend to be more stable
  • Always run behind at least 1 major version, to ensure the most stable version
  • Only update once a 1 or 2 year, due to the high cost of upgrading, fixing breaking changes and QA process.
