If I'm adding lots of local variables to a screen, once there are too many to show then every time I click on the screen name to add another one the list scrolls so that I have to scroll back up to select the month again

It's a good idea (I've "Liked" it!)... but I'd also suggest using fewer variables on the screen. :)

but what is the idea exactly?

I listened to you and I'm using a list variable and using a loop to initialise it. Much neater. Apologies, this wasn't a valid topic for the idea section

You can stuff multiple variables that are related into a structure. It helps to document your code better as well.
