Forge

The forge still has a content issue. Specifically there are still quite a few espaces that were clearly tests, training demos, etc that people have uploaded to the forge erroneously.

Please add a "Report submission" button to the forge items so that we can report bad links.

Some examples:

https://www.outsystems.com/forge/component/1031/testingpopup/

https://www.outsystems.com/forge/component/1791/capp/

https://www.outsystems.com/forge/component/1046/addi-test/

https://www.outsystems.com/forge/component/1746/darss/

https://www.outsystems.com/forge/component/1427/infinious/

https://www.outsystems.com/forge/component/1631/flyfast/

Clearly  none of these need to be on the forge, and should be removed.

Any time someone comes by something like that there should be an easy way to report them.

If there is already a method for doing this, please make it much more obvious and easy to find.

The star system is not working and the download count does not seem to be representative of the actual number of downloads.

A system of up voting or down voting may be more effective and tracking the actual downloads via browser and pulls via ServiceStudio would be better.

Showing a "Pulse" that could include download activity over time and publishes over time could also help to gauge the health of a component.

The upvote rating and download/pull statistic should be incorporated into the contributors quality rating which can then be used to infer a positive bias for components that they publish or are involved in.

Associating and linking professional reputation to quality is probably the neatest way to guide this.

This is just one small part of all the problems that the Forge has.  I documented many of these in my post three years ago at https://www.outsystems.com/ideas/Idea_View.aspx?IdeaId=1554.  You'll notice that it is marked as Done in Version 9.  If you look closely, I don't believe any of these suggestions was actually implemented.

The major reason you see a lot of 'junk' in the Forge is because it is the only way (other than making a post) to allow other users to see or use your code, a result of the IPP mechanism Outsystems has.  If there were a better way to share code you would reduce this issue significantly IMHO.

also had an idea to improve this:

Like some cleanup, search on forge section is also terrible

Changed the status to
Working on it
expected delivery in Q3 2018

Hi Braxton,

During this and next quarter, we will work hard to grow the forge into a marketplace of high-quality components.

We will:

  • Review supported components based on usage and criticality
  • Provide an additional trusted level, for open-source components curated by OutSystems
  • Clean low-quality components from the forge, either improving or dropping

So I have set the status to “Working on it”. We expect it to be ready during Q3. I’ll post an update once it’s done!

Cheers
