An mandatory flag in the forum discussion. (Web, Mobile)

Community Forums
Implemented
on 26 Oct 2020

I propose that in the community forum  all the posts must be have a "flag" where the user must choose if the post applies  to Web , Mobile or both.

I'm never a fan of making it harder for people to post things.

J.Ja

I understand or position, but I am talking of put a check in a option.

And the posts are much more useful if it easy to find that one we need!!

And thanks for or contribution !! :)

Use the tags, that's what they are for.

Changed the status to
Not right now

Hi Alberto,

We are not planning on delivering this in the near future. We like to give the users the option to select the tags they want. The tags are searchable. Because of this, I’m marking this idea as “not right now”.

Nonetheless, thank you very much for your idea, and keep it coming..

Thanks!

Thanks Ana to the feedback

Merged this idea with 'Web or Mobile platform context for new post.' (created on 26 Feb 2019 11:54:54 by Igor Khodak)

Add new combobox filter to add context to "New Post" page.

For example in the forum for questions, the solutions can be different for Web or Mobile platform. That would be a good way to narrow the solutions. Some users don't specify the context and that makes it difficult to be precise on the best solution.

Best Regards

Hello Igor

I fully agree with your suggestion. That will be very usefull.

But I have already put this idea to the forum. I think the best is to merge it.

Merged this idea with '[Community Forums] Add Application Type to New Post Screen' (created on 27 Apr 2020 09:15:32 by Nordin Ahdi)

It would make life so much easier for Forum Moderators and other Community Members who help out on the Community Forums, if we would allow Original Posters to choose an Application Type while creating a New Post.

What I see now is that a lot of times we need to ask the Original Poster to which Application Type his question is related.

The ‘Choose Application Type’ dropdown would contain all OutSystems application types: Traditional Web Application, Reactive Web Application, Native Mobile Application, Progressive Web Application and Service Application.

The Dropdown selection would be non-mandatory since the Post could be related to a different topic.

By implementing the above simple feature, I think it would allow Forum Moderators and other Community Members to post potential solutions to Forum Posts faster and more efficient.

This is already worked on by OutSystems, maybe the status can be updated?

When creating a new post in the Forum, the user could be asked to choose which type of application is he / she working on.

For example, a dropdown, next to the Choose Forum dropdown, specifying if it is a Traditional Web Application, Reactive Web Application or Mobile Application.

This information could be displayed alongside with the title and the chosen forum information directly in the list and / or somewhere inside the post itself.

This information could be very helpful for other forum members because they will know which type of application it is and respond accordingly.

Thanks!

Hi Alberto,

We're happy to announce that this idea was implemented in the new Forum experience.

From now on, while creating a new post, the user can add the application type in the "Post context" section:

Once created, the post will display at the top that information:

Hope you like it!

Cheers,

Merged this idea with 'Forums : Require a radio button selection of Mobile or Web' (created on 24 Nov 2017 18:06:56 by Davidk)

Forum posts in most development environment forums are notoriously sparse of needed information.  For example, there was a post yesterday with a Title of "Click on table records" and with text of...

"Hi,

How to capture an event when user click on a records on table records widgets?

I need to capture the selected records values and pass it to the another page.

Does anyone has idea how to do this?"

No mention of Web or Mobile.  Further information, several posts later, revealed that he was using a Popup.  So... overall... a terrible post.

The only clue to a platform was "table records" which is something that only exists in Web.

If you added a mandatory radio button with choices for Moble and Web, at least that would give readers of the message some kind of idea which area is being used.

Further, I could then search on Mobile answers or Web answers.  Frequently I search for an answer in the forum for a mobile problem only to get a bucket of web based answers which cannot apply.

I know this won't help past posts, but going forward, specifics in a forum post would help a great deal.

Thanks,

David

Hi,

probably a checkbox would be better. There are cases that questions concern both types of applications.

Hi Team,

I have seen so many questions in the forum which doesn't specify which platform they are categorized.

what I feel is we should have a mandatory option while putting a question like a platform Web/Mobile.

why am I saying this because every time the person who is giving the reply to that question have to ask which platform?

Hi Pankaj,

Thank you so much for your idea. I’m marking this as “on our radar” since we think this is a good idea.

This isn’t currently on our roadmap but we’ll keep an eye here if this idea continues to grow and get comments from all of you.

Cheers

When you submit a new post, should be added a combo box to select where you are getting the question.

Combo should have, "Web App", "Mobile App" or both.

At the Community Forums should be add a filter with that three options.

Nice

Merged this idea with 'Select kind of application when create post in community' (created on 16 Jun 2020 14:28:00 by Agno Silveira)

When someone is creating a post in the community, it would be a great help to know what type of application the person is having a problem with, for those who are going to help already be aware of the type of application, web, reactive or app.
