The idea is an application for students, teachers, and parents (guardians) to keep track of a student's progress through the education system.

Some features of this App will include.

• Student-side:
  • See and manage homework
  • See schedule and exam planning
  • See relevant information about past lectures
  • See gradings of past exams
  • Received memorandums
• Teacher-side:
  • Upload lesson summary and additional resources
  • Establish homework and deadlines
  • Upload exam information and gradings
  • Register a student's attendance, etc. (em português: faltas de presença, disciplinares, etc.)
  • Ability to generate memorandums for students and parents or guardians
• Parent or Guardian-side:
  • See student's performance
  • See due homework and homework completion
  • See gradings
  • See schedule
  • Received memorandums
  • Be able to justify non-attendance, etc

These are some of the starting features for the App, which should, in principle, have a mobile component and a web-react component.

The goal of this App is to capitalize on the time students already spend on their smartphones. We will make intelligent use of notifications to draw their attention to homework, learning material, and exam-related information. At the same time, parents or guardians tend to be more present in the academic lives of their children, since the notification system promotes this interaction.

Today this App would have been handy since schools have closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Incentivising engagement is especially important for younger students (10-17) who tend to care less about their education. By using the most effective communication channel (their smartphones), we believe we could aid in the education of future generations and add value to each school.

The development of this idea is at an early stage (conceptualization and prototype development). We have been discussing our concepts with a school in Lisbon that has been giving us great feedback.

From conversations with our partner school and brainstorming, we have outlined the critical App characteristics for success:

• Modern feel and interaction: the App should be state-of-the-art, Instagram-looking, Tik-Tok-addictive, and super-appealing. We know youngsters sometimes have short-attention-span, so we need to make the App desirable to interact with.
• UI and UX focused: know-a-days everyone has little time, teachers and students included. Therefore we have tuned our concept design to provide the most common actions with the least amount of clicks possible.

This is a project that we just started developing and could use professional help.

Since home schooling looks like its going to be worldwide for children they all need help with writing book reports as a way of teachers assessing reading and writing skill development and to make reading books more fun. 

Generally writing the book report is the hardest part of reading the book. I developed an Microsoft Access tool for using a series of questions that the student answers and at the end produces a text Doc for editing which I wrote for my sons years ago. I have written this before in Outsystems and it works well for this kind of application.
