COVID-19

Vision:

In desperate times comes desperate needs. Social distancing enforced through beeps for those who forget to keep their distance from you, or aren’t really aware they are beyond the safe line. This app will help everyone by speaking up to you and all bystanders that aren’t respecting the guidelines for the safe sanitary perimeter. This isn't only for the socially awkward. This is for everyone you hold dear and aren’t taking self-care seriously.

Personas:

Users

Use Cases:

  • If two app users are closer than x meters, the app beeps.

  • For elders that live alone and are careless when going out.

  • For children that want to play outside, or are going to run an errand for their parents.

  • Visual impairment.

Challenges:

  • App adoption would need to be huge.

  • The app should probably run all the time in the background… Or you should be able to activate it and leave it on.

I submitted a similar idea - see 'Keep you distance'.  Same concept, using 'nearby device' technology to manage space.  By using alarms, awareness is increased on both sides which can then be used to encourage download and take-up of the app (spreads using the same concept as the virus)

Hi Mick,

We can suggest the team to merge the 2 ideas :)

The idea is to join efforts between the community.

Merged this idea with 'A distancing application for smartphones?' (created on 30 Mar 2020 08:00:10 by Alexander Holthoer)

This could work in societies where smartphones are abundant enough?
The application activates bluetooth and when phones are brought close (<1,5m ? ), they will warn the owner with a signal (?). The application will count the amount of "close encounters" and give a score in the same way a step counter tells us the amount of physical activity/day.
The idea is mainly to give a reminder and easy "fear factor" to the owner. For minors there could be a function restricting use of the phone if too many encounters are registered.
Not fun, but....?

Thank you for the merge, Cristina.
As a total newbie to this platform, I have to ask: how do we continue on this? I noted at least three similar ideas, but I guess we need a bit of technical expertise on things "possible or not".
As I have understood, bluetooth is not particularly useful for distance measurement and the field is easily disrupted. The question then being how close do we need or want the trigger distance to be; 1m, 2m....and how to avoid "false alarms". We probably do NOT want people to scared of daylight, but only stay aware?
Then the statistics on phone ownership; usage; demographics.... Would this idea have any bearing in it self or would it need a lot of marketing etc.   to reach functionality?
