To accelerate development, it would be great to have the ability to replace or convert a widget into another using a similar approach used in converting a text widget to an expression.

I completely agree!  At least for like to like elements, for example:

A Text Input should be able to easily convert to/between the following:

  • Text
  • Text Area
  • Password
  • Expression
    • (though an Expression should only be able to convert back if it is directly pointing to an attribute without calculations)

This would be especially useful when using the entity to form accelerator when we need to change between text and text area.

Mostly when we drag elemens to Forms, we don't want input widgets but Text or Expressions, an option to convert automatically keeping the reference to the variable would be very useful.

Agreed, the most common one I would use is converting Inputs to TextArea - very common for me to do that having used the scaffolding to automatically create a data entry screen.

When replacing an input field to a text area, the context menu like below is very helpful.

Great suggestion! 

Besides being able to replace free texts with Expressions, it would be very handful to have more accelerators like that, involving equivalent widgets, such as Inputs and Text Areas. Updating the UI would be faster that way.

In Most of the cases when we do the scaffolding, Large text attributes are scaffolded as text input field instead of text area.

I wonder if we have the input conversion option easily in the properties section it will be more quicker user experience.

Without this, I need to remove the input and and add one more text area, assign its appropriate properties.

Hi, 

Much time, when i have a text attribute that is long enough (say 500),

i would to change the widget input generated by scaffolding to text area.

SO, it is better to have a menu to change to that widget.
