Overview

This is a tool designed to help you visualize and document the architecture of an OutSystems application using the 3-Layer Architecture canvas.

The canvas allows you to create and organize application modules, making it easier to understand the relationships between the different architecture layers and communicate the overall structure of an application.

Adding Modules

Modules can be added to the canvas in two ways:

1. Manually

You can create modules directly in the tool by providing the required module information.

This option is useful when you want to build a canvas from scratch or document modules that are not available in an imported source.

2. Importing Modules

Modules can also be imported automatically from:

  • An OutSystems environment
  • A JSON file

When importing from a JSON file, the file must follow the expected structure and format.

Working with the Canvas

Once the modules have been added, they can be moved and reorganized directly on the canvas.

You can position the modules according to the architecture you want to represent, making the canvas easier to understand and visually organize.

Important: Canvas Resolution

Module positions are stored based on the screen layout used when the canvas is edited.

This means that the position of the modules is relative to the resolution and available space on the user's screen at the time of editing.

If the same canvas is opened on a screen with a different resolution, the existing positions are not automatically adjusted to the new screen size. As a result, modules may appear differently positioned or the overall canvas may not be displayed as expected.

Highlighting and Hiding Modules

The canvas provides options to:

  • Hide modules that are not relevant to the current visualization.
  • Highlight modules that you want to emphasize.

These options are useful when presenting or analyzing specific parts of the architecture.

Important: Visualization Settings Are Not Saved

The hide/highlight selection is temporary and is not stored as part of the canvas.

When the canvas is reopened or refreshed, the modules will return to their default visualization state.

Exporting the Canvas

The completed canvas can be exported in the following formats:

  • PDF
  • PNG
