Hello,
I have total 5+ years of experience in outsystems and i have associate reactive developer and ODC developer certification . Can anyone suggest which certification i can take going forward that can help in growing?
As a personal opinion, and some might disagree, I do not think it is related to years of experience. I am here with 3 years of experience, and I have the Expert certifications in both O11 and ODC. I acquired the certifications with the first priority being to understand the architecture, best practices, and how the platform works, so the knowledge came first.
Then comes the best match, and this part is mostly not in our hands, as it is from the employer’s point of view. Some might see someone with no certifications as a good match, while others might see someone with 20 certifications as not fit for the position. So, in my opinion, it is a matter of what you choose to understand first on the platform.
You can take the Web Specialist certification first to understand best practices in the development process, then the Architecture-related certification to understand how an application is built. One might come before the other, but overall, you can acquire both.
Hello Vibhor,
In my opinion, the Web Specialist certification is a good one to kick off with. Most of the development topics covered in the Associate Developer path focus on the basics, while the Web Specialist builds on those same concepts but goes deeper. It covers more advanced topics such as best practices, exception handling, and a deeper understanding of the platform.
Since many of these concepts are already introduced at the Associate level, taking the Web Specialist next is a great way to strengthen and enhance your knowledge. Plus, if you pass the O11 version, you also get the Web Specialist certification in ODC for free once you complete the exam preparation link so two birds with one stone. After that, you can focus on acquiring something like the Tech Lead or Architecture certifications.
Thanks for the suggestion can you please also share that which online training i can complete so that i can get more exploration on this?
Of course,
You can go to Training in the navigation bar, then select Certifications. Scroll down until you find the Web Specialist exam and download the exam details. You’ll receive a ZIP file, and inside it you’ll find two PDFs (the ones I attached). These include the details sheet with all the links to the related documentation, as well as a sample exam to help you test your knowledge.
I also attached a screenshot showing that the Web Specialist certification in ODC is granted automatically after you pass the O11 version.
I am also thinking of doing associate traditional web developer. If possible can you please share some suggestions of what i can do in between associate web developer or web developer specialist?
To be honest, I haven’t encountered Traditional much, but that might just be my personal experience. From what I’ve seen, most teams are moving toward Reactive or ODC, especially with the presence of Agentic AI.
That doesn’t mean Traditional is dead there are still many projects actively using it. It’s just more “old school” now. Most of my colleagues are working on O11, and I’ve even seen some community members with O9 certifications, which I hadn’t come across before. That exam isn’t even available anymore, but it shows how long Traditional has been around and how the platform has evolved over time. That said, some of these projects or certifications might no longer exist again in the future, this is just my personal point of view and might not be 100% accurate.
Traditional web is not a good move while most of the systems are rebuilt on O11, and will be ODC soon.
I agree that from Associate to Web is the best way, you have 5 yoe, should be easy to get this cert. Please refer to this cert chart
Hello @Shingo Lam @Sherif El-Habibi ,
Can you please suggest me that doing web developer specialist is good choice or architecture specialist will be a good choice as i am 6+ years of experience in outsystems?
Hello @Sherif El-Habibi ,
Thanks for the clarification.
You’re very welcome.
If you already hold the Associate Reactive Developer and ODC Developer certifications and are looking for the next steps in OutSystems certification, here are some recommendations based on your experience as an OutSystems developer:
Professional Certifications:
Specialist Certifications:
Architecture & Technical Leadership: If you have gained significant experience and want to move towards an architectural or leadership role:
Ultimately, your choice depends on your current expertise, the direction you plan for in your career, and whether you want to specialize further or broaden your scope. Best of luck with your certification journey!
I know its AI content, but its out-of-date already. Outsystems doesn't let us be granted the Professional Web Developer and Professional Mobile Developer Certifications anymore
It's sad that the Professional Certifications were discontinued. But if even Neo (ok it's AI) is recommending them, I think it's time for a revive 😉
There already is an idea on that, waiting to be upvoted:https://www.outsystems.com/ideas/15250/reviving-of-outsystems-professional-developer/
haha. Its lucky that I got these 2 in my collection already
Hi Vibhor!
You can schedule with our training consultant at Xebia who can guide you better based on your requirements and schedule a bootcamp, if required.
Drop me an email on suchita.khandelwal@xebia.com, if you are interested.
Hello.
I also usually recommend Web Specialist as next step. Unless you have something specific in mind (Front-End or Mobile career) it is the best to expand your knowledge and teach good practices.
Going Traditional may be a option ,but that will depend on the market. Do your prospective clients/employers use it? As it is almost out of support, companies have been moving out of it already for 5 years. 11 and ODC are safer bets as they will persist.
