New Global Research: The State of AI Development 2026

OutSystems recently conducted a survey of over 1,900 IT professionals on the state of AI development.

We wanted to highlight a few stats that are especially relevant for those learning and building with AI development on the OutSystems platform:

  • Trust in code/workflows generated by third-party AI tools jumped to 67%, up from 40% in 2025. AI-assisted coding is becoming the default.
  • 66% report that building human-in-the-loop checkpoints is technically difficult. This can require a complex orchestration layer to pause agents, log their reasoning, and allow for human intervention.
  • 48% cite legacy integration as the most important capability for scaling AI use, and 38% point to fragmented legacy systems as a reason AI initiatives stall.

We will go deeper into these findings on May 13 in a global webinar with Tiago Azevedo (OutSystems CIO), Kris Lande (OutSystems CMO), and other industry leaders, focusing on how teams are approaching AI development in practice.
