In the JavaScript Navigation API; there is a example for disabling the Back button. I tried to implement this and pasted the example code in a JavaScript node of a OnInitialize action.
When testing the Back icon - the code gives a Error: showSidebarMenu is not defined -and the back-icon is still visible, does anyone already solve this?

Perhaps I missed something, but are you looking for something like this:
On the menu icon block just set a condition for what you want to show on the icon.
