Call an event from javascript
Created on 25 Oct 2024
Nuno Ricardo Rodrigues

When we use a JavaScript code is possible to call actions, but is not possible to call events, the only solution is to create a client action and call the event there, but it should be useful to call the event directly.

I think certifications could be a deserved bonus points section for the Community Ranking. After all it shows engagement with the OutSystems community, right?

Refresh your dependencies without having to open all sorts of panels (very time consuming). Bonus: You can also see when code has changed :)As a addon on: https://www.outsystems.com/ideas/6095/refresh-all-dependencies-in-service-studio-menu

CSS inline
Created on 23 Nov 2018
Miguel Verdasca

As we know inline CSS creates performance problems in our applications. One suggestion would be, a bit like in Trusted Advisor (image below), to be able to search for all inline CSS.Just like in the container parameters (for example), when you have fields like Margin Top, or Align ... When you fill these parameters with values, what the page will generate in HTML is inline CSS.The possibility of being able to search for this information would be a huge help.Although the first point of this idea is being implemented in Trusted Advisor, not all customers have access to this platform.Another alternative suggestion that I give you, will ServiceStudio be able to generate warnings when we have style inline. So you would not have to search.Regards,Nuno Miguel Verdasca

Sometimes the failed answers also offer good information on why that answer is wrong. Showing all the comments when the question is correctly answered as well would be helpful.

Forge 'Try Now' Pages should be in one common public site - an Outsystems App Store maybe?
Created on 10 Dec 2015
Curt Raddatz
31
Lately I've run into a number of Forge components that have 'Try Now' buttons but the try now page fails. This is typically because most of the user created components are now using their own personal edition environments to maintain those web pages. Recently a number of these personal environments are either completely gone or suspended. While the recent improvements in the Forge for version 9 are great, it's a real pain to click the 'Try Now' button, watch it fail, download the component, play with it for a while and realize it doesn't do what you want. Seems that the Forge needs to be more like an app store where there is at least some documentation (most have none), a working 'Try Now' button and at least some assurance that installing the component won't screw up my environment. (This was a bigger problem in the past, less so now.)

Schema recommendations
Created on 05 Sep 2024
Tiago Ribeiro

With the surge of AI tools, I've seen more and more database focused companies doing "Schema suggestions". Basically, according to production database traffic the system generates recommendations to improve database performance, reduce memory and storage, and improve the schema. This is what it looks like in PlanetScale: It would be really nice to have something like this in OutSystems. Maybe on AI Mentor?

Publish all consumers - direct only
Created on 06 Sep 2022
Igor Kirtak

In service center module details, there is this useful button "Publish All Consumers".Will be nice to add an option to do this for direct consumers only. This way it can be used to quickly refresh consumers after a change in public elements in low level module, without doing a big republish. One of the problems now is that LifeTime will not allow to deploy if there is even optional change in public elements, so consumers need to be refreshed manually. Another problem is "method not found" error, which requires refresh of consumer plus republish of top level module (at least). For changes in low level modules, current "publish all consumers" feature is not the best way to refresh, because it includes also indirect consumers, which can drag almost whole stack and take hours.

Add the Start Index parameter to local storage aggregates
Created on 18 Feb 2021
Márcio Lima

It would be helpful to have the Start Index parameter in the local storage aggregates as well.Right now it is only available for the server aggregates, meaning that if we want to implement the pagination functionality for local entities, we need to iterate through the list to make it work, which is not ideal. The standard pattern for mobile is the OnScrollEnding action, but for a tablet focused app, that pattern may not be the best fit. For tablets, it's also common to use the table widget, which doesn't have the OnScrollEnding functionality enabled, making the pagination the best alternative.

SQL Input Parameters Automatically Fill In
Created on 23 Mar 2014
Ricardo de Freitas
39
Hello, I currently work with version 8 of the OutSystems software and noticed something that could be improved. Not sure if someone suggested this idea already but here it goes: When in debug mode, every time I am analyzing an SQL object, there are times I need to test it. Unfortunately in debug mode I must manually insert all input variables before hitting the test button. In simple websites/systems this might not be an issue but with complex systems it becomes hard to find out the values of certain parameters. My suggestion would be for the software to automatically fill in the parameter values based on the current object. For example: If I am currently analyzing object A and the SQL query needs this object's ID then it would be filled automatically so I can just hit the Test button instead of me searching for it. Keep up the good work! Regards, Ricardo de Freitas
