Why Traditional Web Development got old fashioned and doesn't receive atualizations anymore? Can it happen in the future with Reactive or Mobile Web Development?
Hi Frank,
Maybe Outsystems don't want to continue support this outdated mode to make applications, Reactive is the present and the future, at least for now :)
I don't believe this will happens with Reactive and mobile so soon. All the new Applications should be done in Reactive and if it's possible migrate the old for reactive, make full sense for me.
Hello.
The initial discussion can be seen here:
https://www.outsystems.com/forums/discussion/71900/traditional-web-will-be-demoted-in-future/#
Summary: Reactive is 6 times lighter on the server so it is the way to go for any big system. As soon as Reactive was close enough with Traditional to be a valid replacement, Traditional was no longer sold and clients were guaranteed 5 years of support plus security updates until they could migrate everything.
You can see the end of Traditional as a first step into ODC because Reactive/Mobile are very close to ODC.
It is good because your move Reactive->ODC will not be as complicated as Traditional->Reactive was.
This is a personal opinion, not official information but you can expect a similar commitment from OutSystems to help you: 5 years to move after Reactive is considered no longer viable. And there are no plans to say that any time soon. At least not until Traditional is gone because the promise is to allow migrations from Traditional to Reactive until 2026. So I'd say you have at least until 2031 to move from Reactive to ODC, a process than can be done in days (worst case scenario). Is it enough to plan ahead?
