Vodafone cuts sales times from days to 5 minutes with OutSystems

In the competitive telecommunications market, you either provide excellent customer service or risk falling behind. And this experience begins the moment you knock on your prospect’s door. Vodafone, Europe’s largest network operator with over 10 million customers, understands this well.
Ten years ago, Vodafone Portugal adopted OutSystems to modernize a single application. When the Digital Engineering team, led by Andreia Melo, saw that, they quickly realized the platform could drive a much broader digital transformation. With OutSystems, the team could not only launch products quickly, but also change and evolve them as customers demanded. Plus, the visual development approach allowed Vodafone to onboard new developers into ongoing projects faster.
Since then, Vodafone has modernized several legacy applications and replaced manual internal processes with OutSystems. The company created a Center of Excellence (CoE) to support various departments with their modernization efforts. This CoE has developed mobile and web solutions for everything from legal, HR and marketing to customer and network operations.
One major success was the modernization of Vodafone’s door-to-door sales process. Previously, sellers across the country relied on multiple communication channels and paperwork. Concluding a sale could take days, as sellers had to send the required documentation to the administration to be manually filled out and approved.
So, the team built an end-to-end digital solution to replace this slow and fragmented process. Now, sellers use a mobile app to manage the entire subscription process, while, in the back office, managers use real-time dashboards and KPIs to make fast, informed decisions.
This digital shift reduced the time to close a deal from several days to just five minutes.
Vodafone is now exploring OutSystems AI capabilities to enhance applications and improve code quality. As Andreia Melo explains:
