Logistics & Transportation Business Process Management Customer Experience Extend SAP Operational Efficiency Web Apps & Portals Asia Pacific

Seaco is one of the largest shipping container lessors globally, offering a range of flexible leasing solutions, sales, and support services to more than 750 clients across the world. To streamline its global commercial operations and improve visibility across teams, Seaco tapped into OutSystems AI-powered low-code platform to develop Dragonfly—a central commercial hub connecting business processes, analytics, and lead management in one seamless interface.

By leveraging OutSystems, Seaco reduced Dragonfly’s development time from months to weeks. With a unified workspace that provides end-to-end visibility, the platform streamlines deal pipeline, simplifies reporting, and shortens lead-to-close cycles.

Challenge

Connecting workflows to better support customers worldwide

For 60 years, Seaco has built its reputation as a long-term, value-added partner, delivering diversified, innovative, and trusted solutions that meet every aspect of its customers’ container equipment needs. As its operations grew in scale and complexity, Seaco required a system to coordinate global workflows and provide visibility across teams. However, existing off-the-shelf solutions fell short—only about 20% of features aligned with Seaco’s requirements, often at a high cost. Seaco needed to modernise its business processes to move from disconnected data silos, complex monolithic platforms, that when changed, often meant extended project timelines.

Recognizing the urgency for a unified workspace to streamline data access and improve cross-department collaboration, Seaco set out to modernize its legacy platforms and build fully customized, cloud-based solutions—enhancing in-house development capability and strengthening overall business agility.

Damian Leach, Chief Information Officer at Seaco, takes up the story. “We compared the features and scale of off-the-shelf software with business solutions built from the ground up to meet the dynamic needs of the business,” Damian explains. “We knew we wanted the best of both worlds: the scale and reliability of ready-made tools with the speed and flexibility to customize a system to our own workflows.”

"Now, in the era of AI, we have future-proofed our business applications by using a modular approach to systems development, infusing AI outcomes into the OutSystems interface. Integrating our data lakehouse and ERP platform to unify analytics in our new commercial interface means we can truly enhance the employee flow of work.”

Solution

Turning complexity into commercial efficiency

To tackle these business challenges, Seaco selected OutSystems AI-powered low-code platform to provide the scalable, agile foundation it needed to build solutions that will drive real business value. Consequently, the company developed Dragonfly—a bespoke platform built for its commercial team that consolidates data, visibility, reporting, pipeline, utilization, contract, and performance reporting into a single interface. By integrating business processes, analytics, and lead generation from Seaco’s data lakehouse, cloud analytics and core transaction platforms, Dragonfly gives the commercial teams access to accurate, consistent information—streamlining operations and accelerating informed decision-making across the organization.

Adopting a modular approach through OutSystems instead of its traditional waterfall execution for the development of Dragonfly, Seaco was able to move through agile sprints in phases, resulting in faster iterations and IT delivery of capability to the business from months to weeks.

A key factor of Dragonfly’s success is its two-way integration with Seaco’s core SAP system. This integration streamlines data flows with the OutSystems interface, ensuring synchronization between both systems.

"OutSystems’ user-friendly platform enabled our developers to build in record speed, thus creating a speed-to-market advantage. We built the Dragonfly prototype in just one month—a remarkable achievement that impressed our business users."

Results

A critical commercial hub steering growth

With OutSystems, Seaco has successfully transitioned to an agile development model, significantly advancing its speed-to-market, delivering core functionalities while reducing development cycles from several months to just weeks. This has bolstered the company’s progress to fully embracing 100% multicloud, improving resilience, interoperability, and leveraging the best features from each of the hyperscalers across their cloud environments.

Building on this foundation, the custom-built Dragonfly platform gives Seaco full control over the design of every workflow, dashboard, and analytics layer. The impact of this high level of customization is palpable: since the implementation of Dragonfly, Seaco has streamlined their deal pipeline, cutting lead-to-close cycles, credit approvals and expediting deal closures.

Today, Dragonfly sits at the heart of Seaco’s commercial operations. Its real-time data visualization simplifies analytics, while its unified interface enhances visibility and data consistency across teams. The result is a faster, more connected organization where deal cycles move quicker, collaboration flows naturally, and growth is both scalable and sustainable.

"By creating a single golden source of truth for all our teams, we spend less time on admin and more on winning business. Our account plans are now standardized and digital, which boosts collaboration and strategic focus. That has helped us work on strategic planning, and speed up onboarding and credit approvals."

“Looking ahead, we are excited to continue to partner with OutSystems and plan to extend our platform usage. We are already building advanced visualization widgets that embed AI reporting, and application-infused intelligence directly into the interface, which will help us create a more intelligent and seamless user experience,” shares Damian. “Now with the advent of agentic AI and AI agents, we will be able to connect multiple business processes together seamlessly and continue to accelerate our automation to benefit the speed of decision-making across our organisation,” he concludes.
