Challenge - When your inventory is comprised of hundreds of thousands of hardwood access mats that constantly move across North America, you need a specialized ERP to manage it. For U.S. supplier YAK MAT, their legacy systems weren’t cutting it and needed to be replaced, but their mobile inventory meant every ERP solution they evaluated required major customization. They needed automation to simplify the process along with simplified searching capabilities to ensure their business could operate efficiently both in the office and out in the field. Their new ERP would have to be extended to support mobile inventory apps through APIs and deliver specialized capabilities to manage the shipping and distribution of its products.
Solution - YAK MAT engaged OutSystems Elite Partner Do iT Lean to use OutSystems to develop the YAK MAT Tracker application and mobile APIs, which deliver a custom front-end to their Infor M3 ERP. The new front end streamlines the management of inventory and the company’s ability to configure new orders from multiple yards to meet customer demand. Staffed by three full-time developers, the total project took 1 year and 5 months to complete from inception to go-live. Because of its success, the solution was quickly followed by a supplier portal.

Results - By simplifying complex processes, the YAK MAT Tracker application has helped the company grow their business. The custom YAK MAT Tracker streamlines the ability to track inventory, create shipments for customers, and keep customers informed of their order status, which is especially important when a customer has a large order of mats that must be delivered in thousands of truckloads. The solution also simplifies the end user’s experience with the system, allowing them to focus on their jobs in the field while capturing more data. The system has 250 active users, with 150 to 180 concurrent users on any given day in the office and the field.
