2024 is coming to a close, and it was one for the books! From hosting the largest ONE conference to date to engaging with our amazing customers and community of IT visionaries—I sure am one lucky mascot. Seriously, these IT teams are not only delivering applications that drive significant business value, but they’re also making a huge impact on our world (just check out some of these stories).
That’s why I wanted to take the time to reflect and share the greatest gifts I received this year as a part of the OutSystems team!
In this blog, I’ll share my top 5 2024 moments, highlighting our incredible community, innovative customers and partners, and new product capabilities that are reshaping the future of software development.
#1. Visionary AI innovation
The gift of AI is certainly a gift that will keep on giving—especially for teams who can capitalize on its power. According to research from McKinsey, GenAI’s impact on productivity could add trillions of dollars in value to the global economy. I know from conversations with our community that CEOs are banking on their tech leaders to unlock the full value of AI, including GenAI, and cash in on the benefits. But with resource constraints and unlimited use case possibilities, that’s easier said than done.
OutSystems understands the challenges and opportunities AI presents, and we want to make sure our customers can make the most of it! That’s why accelerating development of GenAI capabilities was a top priority for us in 2024. Here’s a look at some of this year’s AI innovations and why we believe our AI-powered platform is visionary.
Generate, iterate, and validate with OutSystems Mentor
At this year’s ONE conference, we introduced Mentor—the first full SDLC digital worker purpose-built to transform app generation, delivery, and monitoring using low-code, GenAI, and AI-driven guidance. With Mentor, you can build full-stack apps, including GenAI-embedded apps, in minutes, all from natural language prompts or requirement documents. Then iterate on them to get to a production-ready application—all without sacrificing quality, security, or governance. From app creation to streamlining code reviews and automatic security checks, Mentor is your GenAI and AI partner across the SDLC.
Learn more about Mentor, which will be generally available in early 2025, here.
Positioned Furthest for Completeness of Vision in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Enterprise Low-Code Application Platforms
In the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Enterprise Low-Code Application Platforms 2024, Gartner evaluated OutSystems and twelve other vendors on a number of criteria. For the eighth consecutive year—OutSystems has been recognized as a Leader. In the report, you can learn the criteria that Gartner used to position us the furthest for Completeness of Vision among other vendors.
If you were to ask me, I believe our leadership in GenAI-powered app generation contributed to our inclusion. I also think one of the reasons our low-code platform is visionary is because it’s been powered by AI since 2018 and is built to evolve. OutSystems has been innovating with AI for years to ensure our customers can take full advantage of its powerful capabilities.
But don’t take this mascot’s word for it! You can find out what Gartner said about our strengths in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Enterprise Low-Code Application Platforms.
#2. Peace and data harmony
Disparate data sources. Legacy systems. Human error. These are just a few of the reasons why data management has become such a headache for IT teams. And when it comes to delivering applications, orchestrating the data behind it is often the hardest part.
That’s why we built OutSystems Data Fabric—an advanced virtual data layer that brings simplicity to the process of adding data-based functionalities to apps and helps ensure apps are built from a reliable, integrated, and managed data foundation. With OutSystems Data Fabric, IT teams can:
- Tap into an extensive library of pre-built connectors to easily and securely connect to the most common systems of record and databases, such as Salesforce and SAP.
- Create custom, reusable datasets from various sources to reduce repetitive integration efforts and make data more accessible and actionable.
- Maintain precise control over who can access what data during development with granular role-based access controls.
Overall, OutSystems Data Fabric can help you make your data more useful and your apps more intelligent. The gift of peace of mind that comes with a solid data foundation is one I know the IT community can appreciate! #3. One community, ONE conference, one priority
OutSystems is incredibly lucky to work with the most innovative customers in the world. It’s no question that customers are our number one priority, which is why we are dedicated to helping them maximize success. Here are a couple of ways we do that:
- OutSystems Developer Community: This year, the OutSystems Developer Community grew to 820,000 members. Developers from all over the world gather virtually in the community to learn, share, and connect with other members. They can also access reusable app components, UI components, business solutions, and much more.
- OutSystems ONE conference: I had the pleasure of hosting this year’s ONE conference in Amsterdam, and it was definitely one of the most impactful events I’ve been a part of! From the Mentor announcement to bringing the entire IT community together, we felt a new level of collaboration and excitement about the future of development. We can’t wait for next year!
2024 was certainly full of learning, laughter, and low-code love. Whether we connected in-person or online, we want to say thank you for another amazing year. Discover why OutSystems is the low-code solution developers actually love.
#4. Our expansive network of innovative customers and partners

2024 Partner Award Winners
We are beyond grateful for our partners who help customers drive transformation and achieve remarkable results through the power of low-code. We had an opportunity to recognize our partners for their innovation and impact at this year’s ONE conference, including KPMG, DB Results, Persistent Systems, and NTT Data.
We also want to congratulate all of our regional leaders who won Partner Impact Awards! You can see the full list of winners in this blog post.
#5. Ranked #1 for the External-Facing Applications use case
OutSystems scored the highest for the External-Facing Applications use case in the 2024 Gartner Critical Capabilities for Enterprise Low-Code Application Platforms. We believe this recognition acknowledges our ongoing commitment to helping customers build mission-critical solutions that deliver exceptional customer experiences.
Just ask Sport Lisboa e Benfica, another Innovation Award winner featured in the video I shared in the previous section. Benfica, a Portuguese football (soccer club), developed a highly-rated mobile fan engagement app to support its global fanbase of 10 million. “Currently our app has more than 200,000 users. OutSystems is the right platform for this development because it brings the agility we need to change features quickly without the need for the user to download a new version of the app,” Nuno Silva, Development Director at SL Benfica said. Now that’s some scalability and agility!

Mascot extraordinaire and space explorer Neo is the product of a Slack discussion, multiple sketches on multiple drawing tables, and an OutSystems Community naming contest. Generally considered the ultimate authority on all things OutSystems and low-code, there are rumors that Neo invented GenAI-assisted development, but that's never been confirmed. You can find Neo pretty much everywhere OutSystems goes, making new developer friends, hosting conferences, and being the life of the party.
