A citizen-facing service portal needed a reliable way for service providers (such as public agencies or organizations) to schedule and manage calendar-based appointments and events for citizens. To support this, a REST-based web service was introduced, enabling providers to create, update, retrieve, and manage calendar events directly inside the citizen portal. The system also included support for multilingual content, event locations, attachments, and reminders. The portal was designed to ensure citizens could view upcoming events, receive notifications, and track changes over time.​ The main challenge was building an event management system that was not only functional but also compliant, transparent, and user-friendly.​

Vangin – Citizen Portal (Faroe Islands) Vangin is the national citizen portal of the Faroe Islands, built with OutSystems as a web reactive and mobile application providing citizens a single entry point to government and private services. Its loosely coupled architecture lets each service provider develop their own modules, fostering a Center of Excellence for digital services. Citizens can book car inspections, apply for building permits, explore genealogy, access secure communications, and submit other self-service applications, all authenticated via Samleikin e-ID. - Functionality: Web reactive & mobile, modular architecture, secure login, personalized dashboard, Mínboks mailbox, calendar, and e-services. - Use Case: Centralizes access to critical public and private services in one platform. - Value: 85%+ adoption, 70k+ monthly logins, scalable design, reduced admin burden, and stronger citizen engagement.

Skjáttan – The Digital Wallet (Faroe Islands) Skjáttan is a mobile digital wallet, built with OutSystems, giving Faroese citizens secure access to digital IDs, driving licenses, and the citizen maritime card. Designed for everyday convenience, it replaces physical documents with a secure, always-up-to-date mobile solution. Citizens log in with Samleikin and use PIN, FaceID, or TouchID for quick access. Features include QR code verification, privacy controls (like hiding sensitive data), and live synchronization with national registers. Functionality: Mobile wallet app, biometric login, ID, driver’s license & maritime card, QR scanning, privacy settings, real-time data sync. Use Case: Trusted digital alternative to physical IDs for verification across services and checks in the Faroe Islands. Value: Fast rollout (~3 months), simplifies ID management, boosts digital adoption, and strengthens trust in national e-services.
